best local band around me is "The Breakfast". check them out at the breakfast .org or .info (fan page). they are seriously talented musicians.

    formerly Psychedelic Breakfast, yeah?

Their guitarist Tim is a beast

    Me too :)

Also, forgot to add the Pigram Brothers from Broome, WA to my local list.

Saw Paul Kelly performing with (and being interviewed by) Lucky Oceans, with surprise guest Alan Pigram, in the courtyard of FAC last night... so beyond amazing words fail me... plus John Butler was in the crowd!

I'd have to say as far as bands from the Chicago area my fave is Rise Against, but they've really kind of broken so they're not 'indie'. Another local band that I love is Flatfoot 56...their live shows are just amazing!!

I'm currently digging Departures from Winnipeg. Cannon Bros as well. I'll find links if I can.

Departures had a couple line up changes, so have reformed and renamed as Conduct. Picked up their vinyl recently. They had it produced by Steve Fucking Albini.

Winnipeg's Conduct Tap Steve Albini for 'Fear and Desire'

    By Gregory Adams

    Published Aug 25, 2014

Following work in Departures, several of the band's members went on to form Conduct earlier this year, and now the Winnipeg quartet are set to thrust elements of industrial, post-punk and more through speakers this fall with the release of their first full-length. The art-damaged outing is called Fear and Desire and will be released November 4 through hometown imprint Public Tone.

A press release for the 10-song debut promises a "nakedly angry" effort weighing in on "the inhumane nature of existence, anxiety, and the impulses behind inaction." The group's "slanted approach" to music was inspired by weirdoes of yore like Art Bears and This Heat, and was recorded and mixed with prolific and outspoken engineer Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio facility in Chicago.

Extending the Shellac connection another step, mastering duties were given to Bob Weston. On the musical side of things, the foursome are joined on the title track by Silkworm/Bottomless Pit member Tim Midyett, who added guitar.

While physical copies of Fear and Desire are still a few months off from hitting turntables, you can stream the set's "Contract Killer," a powder keg rife with twitchy licks, sandpaper-coarse yelps, menacing bass fuzz and the avalanche rumble of drums, down below. Note this song is in unmastered form.

    Fear and Desire:

    1. A Figure
    2. Fear and Desire
    3. Bacchanal
    4. Failure
    5. Trans-American Expressway
    6. Another Measure
    7. Public Issue
    8. Intermezzo
    9. Onibaba
    10. Contract Killer

    Flight Risk out NOW!
