ed opens tonight
tonights the night for those lucky enough to see him. I'm not one but i am hoping that he's backed by the rest of the band. i guess he's done solo warm ups; but is there any chance that the band backs him and that is the april fools thing? I've seen people discuss it but does anyone know if it's possible?

EV Solo Shows:
NYC I
NJPAC
I. LOVE. YIELD.
If I had to go out on a limb, I'd say it was unlikely but certainly anything is possible.
Either way, I am happy.
We'll see.

totally agree....the band is always gonna tour....i wonder if ed will ever do something like this again....:)
You know what? Interestingly, sometimes I feel like the opposite. Knock on wood -- I hope PJ stays together forever, but if they ever do, you know, I know that Ed will always play shows. Does that make sense? I feel like every time the band tours, it is like a special gift to cherish because yo never know...
That said, I don't see the band backing him. I imagine it will be just Eddie and a possible guest here and there.
Is Neil back from Europe yet?
it makes sense but i really think ed wants to do this....i think he wants to challenge? himself.....see if he can do a 2 hour (hopefully ) show by himself with maybe some special guests....:)
you west coasters dont deserve anything THAT special!
save the neil and ed shows for the midwest!

I didn't think this would be the case when the tour was announced, but I've changed my tune. It's going to be so cool.
for the least they could possibly do
Also Jack lives in SB and before his house burned down Flea lived in Malibu. So those guys coming out to play 4 or 5 songs in SB or LA wouldn't surprise me.
I'm sure some fun stuff will happen that we don't expect.

As I listen to ITW more and more, 2 or 3 major songs just gotta have accompanyment! Even if it's just a second dude on acoustic! (Reynolds and Matthews). Interesting the sparse PJ tunes in Seattle warm-up, neh?
I think about the solo guitarists I've seen -- and admittedly I've gone because of their GUITAR work, not their storytelling, vocals, presence etc. I think Ed has enough presence to hold the audience in rapture for the whole show -- but c'mon, he's kinda sloppy on the guitar, I'm not going for his technical mastery of his intruments (ok ok, he wails on the Uk!)
So Hedges he's not. Kottke he's not. Matthews nope -- I'm searching, I know Neil does a lot of solo acoustic and that's a good model to think about, but Neil usually brings out da band too. I've seen Stills and Nash by themselves, two guys who wail and wail. The staind dude (sorry) does the acoustic thing, again, as a strong presence and holding an auidence -- but not so much technical mastery.
Dare I say it -- if he goes pure solo, is he walking in Dylan's footsteps? The sage/storyteller? Ok, I buy dat!
But really -- who else pulls off full shows solo at this level? (I'm sure there's a lot of folks I'm missing!)
As said -- regardless, it's gonna be just fine!
