    And I'll probably get a little heat for this, but Mike has never completely dominated a song like Slash does with Estranged.

    Yes He Is
    Great at what he does, yes.

    Guitar god, no.

    Guitar god goes to Steve Vai.

    Slash was onstage Tuesday in Los Angeles with... Stevie Vai, Tom Morello, Wayne Kramer (MC5), Flea on bass and Stewart Copeland on the drums... doing 'Rockin' In The Free World' with Pete Yorn on lead vocals, Perry Farrell on backing vocals. That's a pretty good little band.
    ...
    And i've seen Slash rip through song... from about 2 feet away... and yeah... the fucking guy is a guitar player.
    that sounds amazing. any video of that?

    Guitar Hero... Guitar God... there is a gigantic difference.
    Guitar Heroes are Slash, Eddie Van Halen, Pete Townshend, Tom Morello, Duane Allman, Eric Johnson, Alvin Lee, etc...
    ...
    Guitar Gods are fewer in number... Hendrix, Clapton (in his prime), Stevie Ray, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck.
    ...
    Now... I love Mike... but, he does not make my Top 10 All-Time Guitarists. He fits Pearl Jam. He is perfect in his role as Pearl Jam's lead guitarist... sort of the way all the right players in the right positions at the right time can beat superstar teams in a Super Bowl or World Series.

    I love! when Slash plays:)
    I don't know if he's god of guitar, but he's got so... incredible style of playing and i guess no one can copy him.
    And, sorry, but he's guitar moves me much more than Mike's (even this thread is not about it). Well, we must remember these two represent two different styles

    Why are people here comparing Slash to Mike McCready? The question wasn't who's better....Slash or Mike McCready. The question was is Slash a guitar God.

    Because it was attached to make this a legit thread in The Porch Forum (Step out on the porch to discuss Pearl Jam's music, tour, appearances, causes they support, etc. It's all about Pearl Jam here).

    Slash has a much more distinctive style than McCready. No contest between the two if you ask me... I love Mike, but he's no where near the legend Slash is.

    McCready = Michael Jordan
    slash = Luc Longley

    Slash is amazing. His solo on "November Rain" is sick.
    I'm right with you. His solo at the end of November Rain absolutely runs chills down my spine. In the context of the music video, you can almost hear the guitar crying with the pain of a lost one.

    Some of you guys gotta lay off the Kool-Aid... McCready is a solid player but Slash is a flat-out better rock guitarist.

    Don't be afraid to admit Slash is better... it doesn't make you any less of a PJ fan. I like PJ much, MUCH more than G 'n R myself, but Slash blows McCready away. Bottom line.
