Do you donate blood?

I just did today for the first time in 10 years, and it feels very rewarding. Knowing that 30 minutes of my time might help save a life.

If you are able to donate, please do. There are many people out there that are in need of it.

I am going to start donating more often, they say I can go every 56 days. If everyone would donate as often as possible, we wouldn't have a shortage of blood for needy patients.

Hard to imagine there is a shortage of blood, but we can find plenty of cigarettes when we want to.

  • Have donated... 1st time was in high school. Last 2 times I tried I got rejected (recent tat & a trip to Mexico). I work at a hospital, see blood transfusions every single day (not just for trauma, but for routine surgeries & anyone with anemia or other blood pathologies). I once saw a bag of blood explode all over a nurse & room (faulty pump on the line)... what a mess! And such a waste of a precious gift. I really gotta make an appointment soon, thanks for the reminder :).

I'm not either. Though I have given blood twice, and am waiting for my next opportunity to do so again. Think of it as a way to beat your fear, while helping someone else stay alive. After they get the needle in, you hardly even know it's there.

Not as often as I should. I was told I'm reasonably rare AB+ (not sure if that's true). My mother is AB- and they'd send a taxi for her.

  • Not only do I donate blood but I donate "double reds"
Which means (if you don't already know) that they take out a pint of blood,
remove the white blood cells (the plasma) and then pump that back into my body.
They do that twice. Its a very cool process. You are only allowed to
do that every six weeks or so.

Do you get 'compensation'? Here they will 'compensate' you about $50 for plasma.
I too am a universal donor, O+ but there are not many O+ peeps out there, so I should donate (O+ can only take O+ blood), but every time somebody pokes me with a needle to draw blood, they blow my veins, and I hate needles....

It’s nice to see someone being thankful for the donors out there.

I work for the Red Cross (8 years now) but have been a regular blood donor for over 20 years (5 x's a year).

The need is constant, the gratification is instant.

    Please consider donating today.

    Yes I donate blood.

But I do it just for the orange juice & cookie.

However, I refuse to adopt the motto of my blood type.

    anyone? anyone? anyone?

    That's right. B negative.

You can recieve O- blood as well.....it's O- who can only recieve O- and nothing else.....lucky me. Those in the AB+ can take any blood type...lucky buggers! ;)
