Been a drummer since I can remember. My dad has two sets; the last American made Slingerland's that were his high school graduation present in 1980 and he has a Yamaha set that is the same one that Larry Mullen uses in "Rattle and Hum". I don't know the exact measurements of the drums but they sound great. I hope to own my own set one day.

  • Premier xpk the first year the snare matched the toms, but use a pearl piccolo. Both Sabian and Zildgan cymbals. Is it as hard for everyone else to find other musicians to play with?

Probably either Slingerlands or Yamahas or Ludwigs. Slingerlands have this certain sound I love but so do Yamaha and Ludwigs. I love the last two Yamaha sets Matt Cameron has had, especially today's, and the famous see through's that John Bonham has from TSRTS. Whenever I find the right one, I'll post it here.

Maybe I'll post a pic of the Slingerland set tomorrow.

This is my kit from earlier in the year

    drumroom1.jpg
    p1010125.jpg

I've been upgrading my cymbals, but currently I'm using:
Paiste Signature Reflector Heavy Full Crash 16"
Paiste Signature Reflector Heavy Full Crash 18"
Paiste Signature Reflector Heavy Full Crash 19"
    Paiste Signature Splash 8"
    Paiste Signature Thin China 16"
Paiste 2002 Heavy Hi Hats 14"
...and a very old Zildjian ride

I have a 19" Paiste Signature Dark Energy Crash 19" that I'm going to replace the 16" crash with, so if anyone is wanting to buy a Paiste Signature Reflector Heavy Full Crash that's in perfect condition, send me a PM!

The kit I bought around 1989. It's a Premier Resonator, with a Premier Signia snare. I use a DW 5002 pedal, and the rest of the hardware is either Premier or generic brands.

I think this is my 3rd kit. Got my first one in 1984 with was a CB700, then around 1986 I got a Pearl Export, then around 1989 thru now is the kit above.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

    Thanks! :D

Yeah, I used to use only Zildjian and Sabian, and I'd crack them left and right. My Zildjian K 19" crash was just not cutting enough and was cracked, so I tried a Paiste Signature Full Crash... and what a clean, perfect sound! I then replaced all of my crashes and my china with Paiste Sig Full's. ...and I cracked every damn one of those crashes too. So about 6 months ago I replaced all three of my Paiste Sig Full crashes with Paiste Sig Heavy Full Reflector crashes, and they've sounded amazing too, and I hope are more durable. ...though I'm now selling my 16" Pasite Signature Heavy Full Reflector Crash because I have a Paiste Sig Dark Energy 19" crash coming in about a week to me. I wanted a little of a trashier crash as an option that was still in the signature line.

I'm surprised more rock musicians don't use Paiste. While traditional Sabians and Zildjians sound good on acoustic rock, nothing beats the Paiste signatures on a clean rock crash sound that's crisp. I highly recommend them.

    10' paiste alpha metal splash
    18' paiste 2002 wild crash

The only thing my kit still needs is a new hi-hat stand. My pedal is always sticking and I hardly ever open and close the hat while plying because of it.

Here's the Slingerland set out. I like to keep it a simple, small set up. Normally I would have two more cymbols but there's no room to put the other two. I think my dad said the heads are the same one's that have been on there since he got the set; so looking at 30 year old drum heads. They sound great, too, for 30 years old. These were part of the last Slingerland's made in America; roughly around 1979-1980. They were my father's high school graduation present in 1980. The Black Yamaha's are in the cases.

    Eh, they're fine.
Here's my dad putting the drums into good use back in March. He was practicing.

How do you like the 2002 Wild Crash? I heard good things about it, but ended up going the Dark Energy route instead.

Its got a real nice heavy sound to it. Probably somewhere between there darker cymbals (sigs) and typical rock cymbals (2002's). It definitely cuts through more than the other 2 cymbals. The bell is also pretty good and has a dark sound sound. It doesnt sound too good for soft hits though, its really just for hard hitting.

edit: the wild series use the exact same metal as the new Alphas, only they're lathed and polished better.

Sweet. I think when I tapped on one of those Wild Crashes I didn't hit it too hard so all I was getting was a gong type sound. Sounds like "11" is the volume it needs to be played at. :)
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)
