Yep, coastguard, mountain rescue, firefighters... in Ireland these are often volunteers and I think that is truly amazing. Ya never hear these mentioned in the press... or people out protesting to give them credit... or people telling you to give them thanks. They just get on with their jobs and do it and save lives day after day and you never hear anything about it.

I worked with kids in crisis and homeless teens for years and for little pay. I found it noble. Teachers always complain about their wages, but if they only knew what we went through and got minimum wage for, even though our education was more intense than teachers!!

i took "should" be admired to mean people that generally are not...
nurses and doctors get plenty of love and $$$ for what they do
but yah... we'd be in bad shape without them
nurses are massively underpaid, but anyway...
they both deserve every cent. i work full time with oncology/haematology doctors/nurses/patients/families/carers and hell yes... i can't put into words how much i respect them and what TIME they sacrifice to make a difference
Teaching, let me clarify, those in the field that are there for the right reasons and give it there all. Seems like there's been a few who want it b/c of the decent hours and summer vacation.
