Ok, so what's the best way to store away a poster...keep it in the tube or frame it?
I won't be having a place to put up my posters for at least a year, but I dunno if I should go ahead and frame them or leave them in the tube.

  • I had way to many to frame so i purchased a presentation case to put them in so they would be protected. im definitely not an expert at poster storage but i think leaving them rolled in the tubes is not good for them. here is where i purchased my case from.

Get them out of the tubes! The portfolios from Jerry's are top notch, but if you can't afford them, I've had pretty good luck with the Itoya portfolios. You can get the Itoya's on Amazon.

Cheapest and easiest route to go:

Go to any craft store and pick a science fair board up for less than $5:

    716efecf.jpg

Open it up, lay the poster down. Put a piece of acid free craft paper in-between each poster and then close up the two sides. It stores them flat and they fit perfectly 8-)

Also, can you purchase the boards with a science project already on them?? I wish they had that when I was a kid... :D

    this is good..thanks
I was looking at the portfolio binders myself, but i dont plan on storing them for too long...hopefully i'll be able to frame all mine in less than a year...and then i wouldnt really have much use for the portfolio binder...

Is this an accepted method of storage by the poster pros?

which size do you recommend for PJ posters?
  • I bought the 24 x 36 portfolio and bought both 24 x 36 refills and 18 x 24 refills. that way all of my psoters would fit into one or the other

Do you know how many inserts come with the case, and how many total (refills) it can hold? Couldn't find the info on Jerry's page. Thanks.

5 inserts with the case. Case holds up to 40 inserts. Additional 5 cost $37 I think.

if you have any of the larger prints,
such as Klausens Atlantic City '05 or Los Angeles ' 06 ,
then the 36 x 24 Portfolio is the way to go .

I don't see what is wrong with keeping them rolled in tubes until you are ready to frame them. That's what i do.

What are "roll bends?" Is that a fancy way of saying the poster will stay in a rolled form when stored in rolled a tube?

GREAT idea on the posterboard. I've been looking for a way to store my posters that is more "cost efficient." Perfect!

Just gotta find a place to put the posterboard where theres no chance of damage...Under my bed?

sort of- basically it can make permanent crease marks all throughout the poster. I bought one from Ames years ago and it came like this

no, don't do that. I'm sure it will be fine. Open it up, unroll it, and check it out. It might just need to be flattened out.

As long as the poster is not tightly rolled, it should be fine. I had some old 10Club posters that I left in tubes and forgot about. When I discovered them and unrolled them, they were fine.

  • I'll keep my fingers crossed. I had a dream I pulled the poster out and all of the cardinal red ink was soaking through the poster to the other layers rolled up due to the humidity.

I'm not even going to look until I can afford to get it framed...

They'll be fine. These posters are not nearly as fragile as some would have you think. I have posters that have been rolled for 6 or 7 years and they are fine. Once matted and framed you won't even be able to tell they were once stored in a tube.

I'm guilty of this...I put a few of them between some acid free cardboard and loaded them with tons of books for weight. About 2 weeks went by and I thought I would check on them...all of them wanted to roll back up. Not as tight as in the tube but yeah.

    Any better/faster ways?

Are you going to frame them one day? If so, they'll stay flat when they are matted and framed. You won't even be able to tell they were ever rolled.
