opposite day

I have an idea, let me know who may be on board...

i would like to organize an opposite day. A day where in any discussion topics that are posted about government, liberals, neo-cons, tea partiers, etc you must argue the othersides point of view. Not through research, but through what we truly believe the other side would say. I think it would tell us all alot about how misguided our assumptions about the other side may be. Just a thought.

I just find that most of us are so entrenched in what we believe we are starting to let our assumption cloud or view of the true motivations and beliefs of those who disagree with us.
anyone interested at all?

edit** what brought this on has been the recent posts by Admin talking about the policies.

Sounds like a good idea. And by "good idea", I DONT mean the opposite. :D

seriously, I bet it would be interesting. Chaotic, but interesting.

Do it. Pick a day, post threads for 5 or 10 topics and see what goes down. I'll participate.

i'm pretty sure people would be getting themselves banned if they spoke what they really thought the other side would argue....good idea but it would be a trainwreck...literally....

People in general and many on this board can't do this without demonizing the other end through wide sweeping generalizations. It's easier to categorize ideas and beliefs so you can come up with simpler ways to dismiss them. I personally think if you can't find the loopholes and misnomers in your own thoughts and beliefs, you're not being honest and certainly not clear.

You know what they say about opinions... and I don't discount anyone from having their own even if I disagree with them or they disagree with me. Pretty reasonable and fair. Maybe on opposite day, people can be civil to one another, but not holding my breathe on that. :D

And if you really want to challenge me... make me say something great about Sarah Palin.

Damn - I saw the first post and that is exactly what I was going to say. I can debate anything. Except for Sarah Palin.

But to the OP, this is a great idea. I'm in.

Not sure if you've got me mixed up with another poster, but I typically veer away from personal attacks and name calling and stick to topics and issues. Anyways, have a good day sir.

It's a great idea, but the only way you can do it (without fighting) is if people can open their mind enough. Playing devil's advocate doesn't work with closed minds.

i can do this,... as I'm sure many here can. devils advocate comes easy for some of us.

I think this could be fun, and interesting. I also think it could turn into a trainwreck as mentioned.

I'm going to go at it as if I really beileve and support the opposite of what I actually believe and support.
That's why I have been trying (and trying and trying) to look at the positive aspects of Sarah Palin... for example. All of that thought processing... trying to find something positive... anything... made my head hurt.
    ...
Well... at least I can say I know how Sarah feels when she is required to think.
    ...
I say, i'm up to the challenge... bring it on, you know... and all that.

This is just batting practice, here... and I'm just trying to warm up so I don't pull anything in the big game...
I believe Sarah Palin would be a great candiate for the Presidential Campaign of 2012. She is a relative outsider when it comes to the political quagmire that exists in Washington today and will bring a fresh set of unjaudiced eyes to the issues we face today. She comes from the heart of America... if your heart was in a detached part of your body and was actually attached to your neighbor... so, your heart is kind of floating a few feet above your right shoulder. THAT'S where the REAL Americans live. And she's pretty and probably wears crotchless panties.
Palin stands for freedom and liberty, which she often states in her many speeches. I'm really not sure what that means, but, if she says it... she must mean it. She also tirelessly speaks of her support of Democracy, Patriotism and shooting animals for fun... because, come on... what says 'Patriotic Democracy' more than the freedom of shooting a hungry wolf, crossing a frozen wasteland in the dead of Winter, with a scoped Remington 30.06 from a helicopter? Mmmmmm.... smells like Liberty.
Palin is also a pillar when it comes to family values that ALL Americans should adopt. The sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman (even if that man is Levi Johnston), nurturing parenting of your children (by the nanny, because... come on... Politicaling is really, really hard), education of our childen... especially when it comes to sex education where abstinence only, grounded in good Christian values is taught... ummm... scratch that last one, hard work and never quitting til the job is completed... er... scratch that one, too. Well, you catch my drift... SUPPORT THE TROOPS!!! U!S!A!.. U!S!A!
And if elected President... she has the balls to do what her predecessors have failed tot do... DEFEAT OUR ENEMIES... the Democrats.
    ...
That is why I support Sarah Palin for President in 2012. Well, all that liberty/patriosm garbage but, really... it's the fact that I can picture her getting it doggy-style while bent over that big desk in the Oval Office... because, seriously.... guys... isn't that the real reason why us real American men support Sarah Palin?
    ...
    Okay... so how'd I do?

If we do this, any AMT regular who missed this thread will think they've stepped into the twilight zone.

I'll play, but I can't see people taking this very seriously....consciously or not, i think people will be way over the top in an attempt to defame the other side.
