how can anyone say crawl, closer, cold desert, manhattan, revelry are bad songs?
the band gets big success and then people get ignorant.
their music has evolved in a good way since the very basic youth and young manhood days. however, i say because of the times is their best album.
Nickelback knows exactly how you feel.
1/12/1879, 4/8/1156, 2/6/1977, who gives a shit, ...
dont get too excited about this new record. im ready to hear it but not expecting a whole lot. ive heard 4 new songs at bonnaroo and outside lands and they were average in my opinion. but it may or may not reflect what the album will be like. just saying im not getting overly excited about this one.
Dont get me wrong dont like only the by night crawl and closer thats it but why do people act like there the first band to put out a crap record not that im saying it but i know some poeple out there think that of binural and self titled but yet we still get there albums and go to there shows not really trying to compare the two but i mean to dog the band for one bad album come on if you give up on bands that quick and who do you go see live or listen too? not to many band out there put out gold every time?

Listening to the new album now. It's ok so far nothing mind blowing or anything. Only 4 songs in though.

I really like this album. To be honest I'm surprised there's so many anti-KOL posts on this forum, they're a really good band live and haven't put out a bad album in my opinion
“Do not postpone happiness”
(Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)
I'm listening again and "The End" sounds like another of their songs but can't remember the title.
I thought that the opening sounded a lot like Crawl from their last album. But, I'd have to listen again to see if the rest of the songs sounds like something else.
I guess the other thread got deleted because I can't find it. Anyway the new album is a giant MEH. there are a few good songs and one song towards the end of the album that's great. Other than that it's pretty much crap. The lyrics blow and the production is boring. You could tell some of the songs are older tracks from aha or youth but the boring lame production totally kills it.

KOL need a giant slap in the face.
Don't hold back. You don't like it then?
I agree. I'm now on the 4th play... a few decent songs but nothing to make you sit up. It almost makes me think it's an album of B sides.

So far I listened to it twice and and it hasn't gotten better. In fact the one song that I loved I now like a little less after another listen. (Pony Up) You can tell that song and Birthday are total Aha/Youth B-sides but like I said the production kills it. All the songs sound too similar and the production is too overdone yet boring at the same time. Its like nothing pops in your face. I bet Pony Up would've sounded alot better on Aha with that type of production.
I have also listened to it twice, still not feeling it, but better second time listening to it. I think his might be a "grower" album for me. I do like No Money, Pony Up, and Mary (although I think Mary sounded better live).

on my first full listen now....it's not bad & i agree that it might be a grower. i think i'll end up liking it more than their last album, but nothing else.
am i the only one who's REALLY loving this and finding it extremely interesting?
I think you are. I don't think it's really bad, just not worth getting excited about. OBTN was 80% lame but at least it had a couple of stunners but I haven't found one on this. IMHO of course.

My thoughts too, couple of good tracks, but not the 'grungey' album the bass player talked about.
I like Pyro and Back Down South the most so far.
