I'm a fan of their work!
  • Deftones rule. I'm really into "Diamond Eyes" though I haven't listened it too much. I bought the cd, listened once, said "this is awesome" and then kinda forgot about it. I may put it on tomorrow again. I remember thinking it is their most solid since "White Pony".

Love them. I have seen them 3 times and must say that they put on a good show; their setlists seem to be an even mix derived from all albums.

yeah...my buddy has seen them a bunch of times and says they mix up the setlists like PJ...can't f'n wait to see them next month!

Fantastic band! They share a similar growth pattern as Pearl Jam in the fact that you could see musical growth from album to album...they never flatlined.

It's too bad more people aren't aware how great these guys are because they don't write super hooky radio hits. Chino is a conceptual (sp?) genius and has influenced tons of singers who have turned his "brooding whisper" tone into a career for them as well.

BTW...I love their self titled album. Minerva and Deathblow are great tunes.

Oh yeah son! It's gonna blow your fuckin mind! Deftones are a phenomonal show...and AIC are simply legendary. I'm gonna see AIC at Shoreline when they come to the Bay.

BTW...the song "Bored" off of Adrenaline is a great party starter. We used to mosh pit in the living room to it...yeah we were hammered when we did it. BTW...Chino really respects Ed and his talent and the powewr of PJ...even though it aint his cup of tea.

    Fuck yeah, Deftones are great.

White Pony and Around the Fur are very good albums.

Unfortunately, I will be missing them for the 3rd time (never seen them at all) straight from being out of town. God damnit...

I've actually had this conversation with him. He loves the euro mod/pop scene (The Cure... ect....)of the 80's...and two of his favorite American Bands are Weezer and Smashing Pumpkins. He also loves 80's metal as well as Emo rock...and mid 80's to mid 90's Rap as well. He's wasn't a big fan of the "Grunge" scene...but he has a growing respect for it's musicians and their legacy.

If you can get lit up and watch Mastodon play their set and not be converted into a fan.....I fear for you.

Seriously though. Mastodon fucking brings it live -- you're in for a treat.

Yeah...that's pretty much my motto too when it comes to music. Chino's a really laid back dude when he's not on stage. I sorta have an "in" when it come to him...so I've been able to pick his brain a few times. It's cool to see that other people on this board recognize how talented he and the rest of the Deftones are.

They have stuck to their guns musically while watching "poppier" and "trendy" versions of themselves make millions of dollars off the formula and style that they originally brought to the forefront.

If you have a chance...pick up their B-sides album...there's some cool stuff on there as well as a dvd of both interviews and video's.

I have ALL their shit now..they do some really awesome covers of people you wouldn't expect them to cover! I love that shit!!..i may have only been a fan for a few months but i am a fan for life...their sound may not be for everyone like i said, but it IS for ME! and it's even cooler that i have AIC & a good friend to thank for that....the shows are GA on the floor that i am going to, so i hope to make my way to the rail and really get to rock out with them up close and personal!....and yeah man...i respect them for not selling themselves out...I love artists who stays true to their music and pursue new sounds instead of new fans...because real music will bring real fans.

and the funny shit is...80s new wave is like a guilty pleasure for me..i dig that shit too...I'd love to see the Deftones cover Gary Numan's "Are friends electric"...spiced up with a nice Stephen Carpenter riff.

That's great that you have totally delved into their complete discography in such a short time. You're gonna love the show...they leave nothing behind on stage and they have a MONSTEROUS SOUND. The fact that AIC will still be on deck is mind blowing. We aren't getting The Deftones in San Jose...just AIC. I'm looking forward to the show because they moved it to a smaller venue (GA-5,000 person venue) so I'll have a chance to really watch Jerry do his thing.

BTW...try to get on Steph's side (your left...or Mike's side)...it's facinating to watch him make such fat and crunchy sounds while looking zoned out with his head down and a face full of hair. Chino will be all over the stage... so you can see him anywhere you stand.

BTW part 2...If you haven't already...check out Chino's side band called Team Sleep. It's pure EMO... Chino style. I believe he also produces all Team Sleep stuff as well.

  • well.....both shows were fucking awesome!!...I lucked my way into a meet and greet with the Deftones @ Mohegan Sun....they are mad cool......bumped into Steph after the second show on the way to my car and went and chilled with him in front of their tour bus with a couple of the other Deftone & Mastodon dudes....all in all it was a great 2 show run...Deftones & AIC tore shit up...and even though i'm not into Mastodon's music...they tore shit up too!

    now i need a pure Deftones show....10 songs just isn't enough...i need a 20+ song set!
