I don't care so much about the Greatest Hits, but new single? Hell yeah!

Edit: I just hope it's not produced by Timbaland...

Surely they have something better than ANOTHER greatest hits collection up their sleeves.
New song...that's nice but hell give us an EP or something...at least a handful of songs

Doesn't matter how many they have. That does not concern me.
SG does not have the catologue from which to pull more than one greatest hits album...the Beatles do though

only if you like the beatles' music.. i can respect it, but in all honesty, in the 70gigs of music on my computer, there is not a single song from the Beatles on it except for covers from bands i like=p like Come Together from Soundgarden;)

unless they did a re-issue of Superunknown or Badmotorfinger to help advertise they are back, another "Greatest Hits" is probably the best option.

maybe it's a B-Sides greatest hits like they were supposed to have? was there a track listing anywhere? that would be sweet~

its good to see that they're still following the "whats the weirdest thing we could name our album?" process.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

Is this "new single" actually a new song? Or is it just a song from the past that was unreleased?

sooo... not quite as excited as BRAND NEW... but its a start

theres gotta be something more happening with all the time they've spent in the studio

    From http://blogs.waaf.com/mistresscarrie/20 ... undgarden/

Soundgarden announced their reunion on New Years, and with Lollapalooza on the way… You knew the new music was coming too.

The brand new single from Soundgarden “Black Rain”, from their greatest hits package “Telephantasm”, will arrive 8/10/10. I haven’t heard it yet, but I cannot wait for NEW Soundgarden!!! It is a greatest hits package with some new tracks and the single is actually a song from the past that they never finished recording and never released. They went back into the studio and re-cut the vocals and the guitar parts, so it should sound like the Soundgarden we all know and love!

Here are the packages that will be availible:

Three configurations of Telephantasm will be released on 9/28:

    Deluxe – 2 CD/1 DVD

    Super Deluxe – 2 CD/1 DVD + 3 LP’s (5000-limited numbered release).

Vinyl – three LP colored vinyl sold exclusively through Junket Bay

Keep listening to WAAF for all of the new music that’s coming this year… Including new RHCP!!!

They should've kept this Greatest Hits title for an album, if they dare go there. Would've been an awesome name.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

    I concur!!

If I were to guess, I would think this has more B-Sides and unreleased stuff in it than we know about yet. The band hasn't released any information, and won't until after Lolla. The single isn't getting released until 2 days after thier Lolla performance. Just too bad I can't make it to Chicago for it...

There's one new song on it, not "new songs". The rest are songs that we all already own. That would be like buying the Super Deluxe version of Ten again just because they added one new demo to it.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

  • I'll get more excited when I see an official tracklisting. People on "Soundgardenworld" message board don't seem to know anything more either. I'm pumped to hear a new song...but I will say the other day I went on Youtube to finally see what the Chris Cornell solo stuff was like. I wanted to cut my ears off.

I still think Euphoria Morning is an amazing album... then its a slide. But the Carry On album has some good songs (Ghosts, Safe and Sound, You Know My Name) and then Scream has been covered for what it is. :)

  • Euphoria Morning is amazing. He was fresh off Soundgarden and still at his creative peak. The first Audioslave album even has some amazing songs like Cochise and Show Me How To Live. Cornell didn't go to shit until the second Audioslave album when he started dicking around with poppy shit. His second solo album Carry On is probably the worst record he has ever made. He sounds like shit on it, his lyrics suck on it, and the music is terribly bland. Scream sucks too don't get me wrong but his voice actually doesn't sound bad and some of the songs (like the title track) actually sound good when you take out all the bullshit drum machine stuff.

Black Rain was mostly written in 1993/1994 so it will be great. I think new Soundgarden would be great because Cornell would have a lot of pressure on him to write good shit. With his solo albums nobody really cared about them so he could be as self indulgent as he wanted, but with Soundgarden he knows he can't shit on the legacy and he also has Kim, Ben, and Matt to help him out in the creative process. They need to make a new album.

That's a pretty good tracklist, it's nice to see some Screaming Life and Ultramega OK songs on there, but it's not really worth buying just for a 'new' Badmotorfinger leftover and a couple of live versions.
