Why has PJ never toured with STP?

They could call it "The greatest tour ever"

Because it would be.

Imagine Ed and Scott trading vocals on a mutually-loved Doors song. It would be as epic as Hunger Strike.

Ahhhh well, at least i can dream.

b/c IMO Scott Weiland is unprofessional and would probably want to headline.
  • would scott have enough time between taking drugs? Isn't that why Velvet Revolver dumped him? If Slash is getting rid of a guy for that then it must be bad!

Because Scott Weiland is a pain-in-the-ass distraction.

Ah, back in the early days, Ed used to rip them as a poser band, and by this point STP is probably just way off PJ's radar. They have plenty of other bands they would much rather pair up, that share a common space or outlook as them. No offense to the rest of STP, but Weiland comes across as wanting to be a rock star, and nothing else. I won't put him down for being an addict, because no one should have to go thru that. But that aside, PJ is in a way different space then that band. They worked real hard to get there, and they inspire me as a fan for that very reason. Learn, reach, grow.

I've seen both bands multiple times but I gotta agree - to have both on same bill would be kinda weird.

    because STP are shit
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

because in 199-whatever when stp came out. most pearl jam fans (myself included) considered stp to be a pearl jam rip off band and hated them. same think with creed.

I like both bands ... but you asked for a reason they haven't toured together. One would be Ed's utter disdain for them back in the day. Now, as someone mentioned, I doubt anyone in Pearl Jam remembers STP exists (and possibly vice versa, as well).

STP are pretty awful in the scheme of things,

they dont deserve to be anywhere near a PJ stage, not in a million years.

oh and Weiland comes across as quite a dick.

STP are fucking awesome. What are you people talking about?

I'm seeing them for the first time on Tuesday. It's gonna be kickass!

Oh, and Frank Black (yes, THAT Frank Black) is opening for them.

STP is some good shit. I wouldn't say they are anywhere near the level of PJ (of course) but I like a lot of their music.

That being said, Scott Weiland is a complete douche. He is Nigel from the movie, "Spinal Tap."

I can see him saying something like, "As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll."

Weiland is a total poser. the guy went through several incarnations before "grunge" got popular and he decided to be "grunge". at one point before that he was doing a Duran Duran type thing. like Anthony Kiedis says, "choose not a life of imitation"

It's funny that some people are calling STP a poser band, when Pearl Jam was accused of that a lot as well.

    Don't get your hopes us.

My buddy saw them a couple weeks ago, and Weiland could barely get through an hour, he was so messed up. I think they played a 75 minute set.

    shameful

STP are NOT Creed or Nickleback ... But these bands would not tour together for the reasons others mentioned. One thing about STP that rankles me is the fact that they steadfastly refuse to play new material live ... Their set, which never changes, is around 90% Core/Purple material. Still, after all these years. Its like they're a museum exhibit as opposed to a live band. I suspect it has something to do with Weiland refusing to rehearse much, and being unable to learn songs that he hasn't already performed hundreds of times.

No kidding. I know I've heard people refer to them as "Stone Temple Pearl Jam" esp about 10 yrs ago.

I have never heard that. Never.
I'm a music writer & I have heard many unkind and untrue things about PJ, but the one thing that is widely agreed on is that when they first came out, no one had ever heard anything like them.

because Scott Weiland is a little bitch.

although STP rocks, it would be a complete clash of band personalities.

    edit: double post.
  • Why do people compare Scott and STP to be Pearl Jam ripoffs. Even in Plush I hear nothing that resembles Ed. None of their songs besides maybe Dead and Bloated really sound like anything PJ would ever do.

Just please stop considering them a rip-off when they are not.

Maybe Scott Weiland was a better timed Scott Stapp, but the Deleo brothers are excellent musicians and songwriters. Creed never wrote anything that even approaches the majesty of Glide, Atlanta or Adhesive.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

Actually I have heard a couple radio show hosts say that Ed and PJ are a rip-off of the Doors and the Who.

No they're not. They aren't to PJ's level but I'll take their classic riffage over the crap that passes for rock & roll these days. Oh and Dean DeLeo is a better guitar player than Stone.

Ah. OK- so DJs said that. Speaking as an ex-DJ, DJs these days are hacks. The majority of them are moderately funny guys who do open mic stand up comedy in their free time.
Doesn't mean they are not entertaining, just that almost no one on the air knows anything at all about music.
Case in point- the #1 DJ at a Classic Rock station in Providence didn't realize that Neil Young's catalog didn't stop with "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" and pick up again with "Freedom." Sadly, that is not even a mild exaggeration.
