Forget Seniority, let's talk ticket prices

i for one would like to see them dump the million dollar lighting rig/laser show, bring back the discoball and candles, and give us tickets back in the 40 dollars range (instead of the current 50-60+ dollar range)
i think that is something that should be done before we bother worrying about who sits where.
i understand touring costs have gone up, but have they really DOUBLED since 1998? Wouldn't leaving those extra trucks full of lights at home help the situation with the fans AND the environment?

Yes.
Your dollar has lost SOMEWHERE between 25 and 50% of its value in the last 12 years or so ... if you want to draw it forward to current, just move the line down to "74", which is where it is now on the $ index. Keep in mind the dollar index itself is weighted against OTHER inflationary currencies, so its hiding a significant amount of value loss.
If I opened it now would you not understand?
I think ticket prices are still pretty reasonable.Yea they are higher but so are ticket prices across the board. I saw PJ on the 05 Canadian tour in Ottawa. Last year my girlfriend saw Tim McGraw in the same arena. The difference in ticket prices was insane. I paid about $120 for 2 floor seats. For her concert anywhere on level 1 or 2 was about $120 for 1 seat.
We are only talking about PJ here... Tim McGraw is AMAZING!
And anyway if you go see any half decent badn/performer these days, you are probably more likely to spend $75-100+ for a show (decent seats) Pearl Jam keeps all the tickets the same price and you still get to see a killer show at the end of the day. My first Pearl Jam show, I paid $12 to see them... I would happily pay 10x that amount to see them today...as long as the quality of the show is what you are expecting from it.
and still jonesing for another show....
"the waiting drove me mad..."

If Ian MacKaye can tour the country and charge 10 bucks, Ed can't charge less than 65?
What a joke that man has become.
VHS has gone down in price. Maybe since the band is old now they should go down in price too.
my buddy's band plays shows for $5. does that make ian mackaye a joke?
quit crying please.
WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to harsh there my friend. Ed is playing between 1000 and 2000 seat venues and it costs a lot of money to go on tour and book these type of theaters. My guess is that Ian was playing small clubs that hold 500 people max. These places cost less to rent.

I almost put this same post when I responded! But he's the lead singer of Fugazi and Minor threat.
Someone who has never played in front of as many people as Ed hence the lower ticket prices. And I mean that as no disrespect because Minor Threat and Fugazi are both really cool bands.

you fail to realize the simple truth: a chartered jet and a chef-on-tour don't come cheap

if we are comparing PJ to their peers, the prices are reasonable...even good. but they have DRAMATICALLY jumped in the past years. prices have tripled, or more, since '98. tickets were $23 then. in '00 they were still at or below $30. in '03 they were upper $30's. now they are gonna be $70? its a bit crazy, especially when considering the preaching that was done in the early 90s about prices..."i want a dad who works at a gas station to be able to afford to bring his kid and buy a couple of shirts..." blah blah blah. that is not happening nowadays.
and yes, i understand that things have changed...dollar is worth piss, gas prices, booking fees, etc. are all up. the band is in a different space personally, with more than themselves to think about. all good reasons to raise prices. but when they tour for a month and are each pulling down multi-million dollar paychecks, its a bit opposite what they stand for, which i still believe they do. either way i'm going to shows, so i guess it doesn't matter...
