I'm visiting the Big Apple in September and was hoping to catch a band while out there. I noticed Mudhoney are playing the Bowery while i'm there and I was thinking of going. I'm not a huge fan but like what i've heard.

Anyone seen them live or been to the venue? If I was going to buy their music where should I start?

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Saw them in 98 - opening for PJ, but would love to see them again.

Superfuzz Bigmuff is a killer album

  • I've seen them once and they were awesome.

Personally I would start with 'Superfuzz, Bigmuff' and then get 'Since we've become Translucent' (my fav)

Their last one 'The Lucky Ones' is also a great album.

I love Superfuzz,Bigmuff, Piece Of Cake and My Brother The Cow but the newer albums like Since We've Become Transluscent and Under A Billion Suns are immensely good. Haven't heard The Lucky Ones yet.

Yeah I agree. I think I do prefer the latest ones.
  • I have seen Mudhoney a few times and I can honestly say they are one of my favorite live acts. The last time I saw them was during their "Lucky Ones" tour which was great because Mark doesn't play guitar on those songs, which means he has more room to roam the stage. (I love his guitar playing, but without his guitar, Mark becomes more like Iggy Pop on the stage.) Obviously Superfuzz Bigmuff is a great place to start, but if you want a solid selection of their 80's and 90's material, I would suggest their greatest hits double CD "March to Fuzz." Disc 1 covers a lot of their studio released stuff while disc 2 covers their rare stuff. Personal favorite records of mine are, "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge," "Tomorrow Hit Today," and "Since We've Become Translucent."

Like most have said, you really can't go wrong with any of their records but I say "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge" is my favorite.

I love Mudhoney. They're probably my second favorite band, behind Pearl Jam of course. Unfortunately, I've never been able to see them live. I've been dying for a chance to though. As for where to start with their albums, I always say start at the beginning. If you like what you hear, work your way forward. So that would be starting with Superfuzz Bigmuff as others suggested. Not sure of the play count, but I'd bet that I listen to Superfuzz Bigmuzz, the self-titled album, and Under a Billion Suns the most.

I wouldn't pass up a chance to see them if it were me. They're stuff is all pretty good, IMO. Their latest album, "The Lucky Ones", is fucking rockin'.

    Have fun!

It looks like you are fairly ambivalent about them.
