I think there needs to be a definition of what a game is.  Sorta like when the WWE had to call themselves "sporting entertainment" to separate from actual sports.

I know what isn't a game.  A studio that puts out something called a game, but is really a money extraction device, and when it fails to extract more money that it cost to power, they pull the plug

    Concord - 15 days (estimated $400M budget)
Highguard - 45 days (closing came at the 2025 gaming awards!)
Marathon - TBD (Sony spent ... checks notes ... $3.6 billiion on Bungie so I see this one lasting longer).  It doesn't look fun.

Even Arc Raiders, which is fun, is straddling what a game is.  I enjoyed it, but it dawned upon me at hour 70 that I don't need to be playing a loop until 1am so I have enough points to unlock a rubber duck I can put on my characters backpack ... wtf am I doing came to mind

Nintendo is even straddling the edge with the last year of Switch 2 slop and over-inflated pricing.

The good news is that the indie studios have never been stronger and there a lots of bangers out there for under $30.  Bad news is that regulators in NY and credit card companies are trying to distill where you can buy (and what you can buy) to a few sources, much like Amazon / Walmart bought and phased out every company that used to sell stuff on the internet (remember 2010 when you could find deals?)

I look forward to the upcoming God of War Cooking Simulator that our gaming overlords will soon bestow upon us.  Kratos gets a puppy in that game.

I have been playing games on Crazy Games platform for years.  They have become dumbdowned games.  Click games.  They actually call some “mindless clicker”!

The newer video games I have seen seeing do the work for you.  Just going through the motions.  There is no problem solving anymore…

I'm playing through Medal of Honor on the PS3, the first of the franchise set in Afghanistan.

As an FPS, I think it is pretty impressive. It does a good job of immersing you in the action and makes you have to adapt to different roles in a variety of situations.

Kind of reinforces how much war sucks while simultaneously putting you in the perspective of those who are in harm's way on the front lines.

Started into the Demon's Souls remake on PS5 ... amazing remake!  I can't believe Sony chose to shut down this studio while their bigger studios lose money.  I guess not having monetizing skins so I can make my undead warrior look like Harry Styles makes them expendable.

Beat the 1st boss on first try ... I've not done that before.  2nd boss ended me in about 15 seconds even though he is "supposed" to be easy.  A basic enemy killed me before I could recover my souls, so I swore to the heavens and went to bed.  I shall try again tonight.

Todd Howard (Bethesda Studios) joking around in an interview in regards to Elder Scrolls 6 ...

"Just pretend we didn't announce it. It doesn't exist. No one has heard a word."

We don't have to pretend.  It doesn't exist.  And I'm taking that comment and adding another five years to when we can seriously (maybe) expect an elder scrolls game.

Skyrim was released in 2010 and made a ton of money (still is).  I'm guessing the money bin from micro-transitions in Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76 is keeping them satisfied and lazy.  It's not like they are pumping out updates for Starfield (RIP).

But to put it in perspective, children will have been born into this world after Skyrim that will have completed their military draft paperwork and possibly be close to the legal drinking age before Elder Scrolls 6 comes out.

Not to mention how they could have made even more money if a new Fallout game was release while, I dunno, a major TV hit based on said game is currently taking place and exposure is at an all time high.

If I was a Microsoft head, I would fire this guy and get someone who is motivated.

I hate the Bethesda guy.  One of those annoying nerdy 'fake-hip' jeans in the office wearing people who make you wonder what it is exactly they bring to the table.

I don't get why it isnt easier to create a game like Elder Scrolls or even skyrim, while there is money to be made, especially now with AI assistance (not saying I want an AI game, but I am sure it is capable of filling in a lot of monotonous/mundane tasks and finding bugs and such)

I looked forward to Starfield for years and put it down after not finishing much at all.  I didn't hate it, but it kind of bored me.  Looking back, they should have made more to do on less planets.   More robust planets both inhabited and uninhabited.  They could have released new solar systems as DLC.
My feelings about Starfield diminished my anticipation of Elder Scrolls.  I figure a new Fallout is a long way away (and IMO Fallout 3 was the peak).

They are supposed to be releasing an update for Starfield (probably to support the PS5 release).  I will probably blow the dust off my Series X and give it a try.

The Oblivion remake is good, but Bethesda farmed that work out to another studio.  I played waaay to much Fallout 76 to even think about re-installing.

Im giving Elden Ring another crack.  Liking it so far but kind of stuck.  Feels like I have explored most of my surroundings, cleared a few dungeons, but not leveled up enough for some bosses i encounter.  Not really wanting to farm/grind so much.  I have a few weapons/items I can use once I get my dexterity up.

You should just use some summons to get people to help you on the bosses.  Or help others and level up by doing that.  I think I've played through it (base game, not DLC) 3 or 4 times.  Would be ashamed to see how many hours I've actually played that game.  hahaha

Kind of embarrassed to say it but I played "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" for the first time this weekend. This is my first time playing ANY Call of Duty game and totally get why it is such a popular franchise. Really good graphics for something that came out 15 years ago and lots of fun.

Definitely behind the times but glad to be experiencing some of this stuff for the first time now. Kind of like being a kid again. Haha

I have not done that as of yet.  I few people seem to have invaded my game and mauled me though?  At one point someone invaded, then another person jumped in and attacked that person and I was able to get the kill and it was kind of cool.

It is fine so far.  Putzing around Limgrave exploring and getting my level up.  Cleared out some camp and got a decent sword.  Learning how to fight as well as some of the systems in upgrading weapons, runes, using the pouch, etc

Marathon flopped so bad that Sony is raising the price of the PS5 by $150.  They claim “global economic pressure “, but between this game and Concord, Sony basically set one billion dollars on fire.  Gotta keep those investors happy, though.

Video Game Consoles might be reaching their zenith.  I think the low end price of a PS6 will be $800.  That is hardcore gaming territory and that is an audience that is ignored currently.  Mom and Dad are not dropping $1000 for little Jimmy on a playstation, an extra controller and one game.

Also, Sony has started using “dynamic pricing “ on their online storefront.   The price you see will not be the same
    as I see.

I was on the fence to start Demon’s Souls or Elden Ring.   Figured I would start with the OG.

I put about 30 hours into Elden Ring on Xbox but haven’t played it in a few years.  I have all the guide books from Future Press (top notch quality).

Same, with putting 20 hours or so when it came out and getting overwhelmed/bored.

Loving it this time.  So much to explore.  RPG systems are great at 2nd glance.  Incredible world/story.  Heard a podcast from "you know what's cool" about the lore behind the game.  Pretty much the story of what happens up until the game starts. Its all stuff found around the world and item descriptions people pieced together.

I'll still get one.  I have a gaming PC and never play it.  Def prefer to sit on the couch and play a console.  But you're not wrong.  Anything that comes out that's "next gen" is going to be stupid expensive, but I think there is a big difference now than there was in the past.  There is a big age gap of people who own these consoles now.  20 years ago, it was the younger generation who were playing games.  That generation is now in their 40s, who still play games and don't just buy them for their kids.  I don't have kids, but i'm in my 40s and play games quite often.  When I was in my teens, I don't remember too many dads at that time who played games and would rush out to buy a new system.  My biggest issue with a new gen system isn't the cost...it's the lack of new games.  Developers take years and years to create a game and by the time they get it out, they are almost ready for a new system launch.  Man, I remember back in the day it seemed like every month or two a new game came out that I had some interest in.  Now it's almost one per year.
