Speechless right now. These tea baggers are pissing me off.

Let's look at a quote from the great Howard Zinn about socialism:

"Let's talk about socialism. I think it's very important to bring back the idea of socialism into the national discussion to where it was at the turn of the [last] century before the Soviet Union gave it a bad name. Socialism had a good name in this country. Socialism had Eugene Debs. It had Clarence Darrow. It had Mother Jones. It had Emma Goldman. It had several million people reading socialist newspapers around the country. Socialism basically said, hey, let's have a kinder, gentler society. Let's share things. Let's have an economic system that produces things not because they're profitable for some corporation, but produces things that people need. People should not be retreating from the word socialism because you have to go beyond capitalism."

What kills me, is that the tea bag/far right thinks that what we have anywhere resembles socialism.

I guess if you repeat it enough, people will start believing it.

you have to remember that the average tea partier is not the sharpest tool in the shed and they will believe anything told to them by the anchors and the pretty red and blue scenery on fox news...

what we have now is NOWHERE near socialism. what they fail to grasp is obama is a centrist at best, not the radical lefty they make him out to be....

I lived in Iowa for 5 years, and it was one of the most open-minded places I've ever been too.
This upsets me as a former Iowa resident but more importantly as an American.

    Such bullshit!!!
People in the country don't even know what Socialism is, let alone compare them to two horrific dictators!

The difference to me is that one (new black panthers) are a few idiots that no one really cares about (except fox news for some reason), and another is basically a national political party who has candidates running for office and is on the news every day.

I don't think all tea partiers are racist... and I think the movement and a lot of those in it are good meaning people who are just fed up with how our government operates. I get that, and totally understand that. But, there are some vocal racists that normal people in the party don't seem to eager to denounce, and the party in general has been hijacked by the republican party.

What really helped to get Obama elected, was the grass roots movement that they started and brought along... The GOP saw this, and decided to hijack another grassroots movement and distort it to fit their agenda.

"That's just a waste of money, time, resources and it's not going to further our cause," said Shelby Blakely, a leaders of the Tea Party Patriots, a national group. "It's not going to help our cause. It's going to make people think that the tea party is full of a bunch of right-wing fringe people, and that's not true."
Blakely also expressed outrage at linking Obama to Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany who oversaw the killing of 6 million Jews and whose invasions of neighboring countries led to World War II.
"When you compare Obama to Hitler, that to me does a disservice to the Jews who both survived and died in the Holocaust and to the Germans who lived under Nazi regime rule," Blakely said.
John White, an Iowa coordinator of the Tea Party Patriots, said that he can understand the North Iowa group's perception that Obama is "Hitler-esque," but he thinks the billboard is offensive and unproductive. White said that he planned to discuss the matter with national tea party officials.
"I fear they may end up in some kind of trouble over it, because it's basically slanderous," White said. "I don't know that it's the message we want to send. I'd much rather see billboards that say 'Remember in November. Get Out and Vote.'"
The billboard is owned by Waitt Outdoor of Omaha, Neb. Waitt general manager, Kent Beatty, said the company didn't have a problem with the message.
"We believe in freedom of speech," Beatty said. "It doesn't reflect our views, necessarily."
The White House declined to comment on the sign.
One person who welcomed the billboard was Dean Genth, a Democratic activist from Mason City, a city of 30,000 people just south of the Minnesota border, who said he thinks the sign lays bare the views of tea party supporters.
"I welcome them to continue to spew that kind of stuff because I think it's going to do a lot of good for the good Democrats around the state," Genth said.

Socialism is fine in theory. It will never work in the U.S.

I'm amazed that people think Obama is a Socialist. He is knee-deep in the cogs of our capitalistic society. I guess part of it is Obama's fault for lying about "change".

As for the yahoo that put this billboard up, I kind of feel sorry for them if they really believe the message they are trying to deliver. These yahoos give the 95% of honest and respectable members of the tea party movement a bad name and image.

Unfortunately, the world is full of fools and they have a tendency to infiltrate most groups.

I was arguing with this dude at work one day and I asked him how he can think Obama is a Nazi and think Obama is a socialist at the same time since Nazis and socialists would be at opposite ends of the spectrum. Without missing a beat he was dead serious when he said "The Nazi party was the National Socialist Party - so there!" OMG.

I guarantee you 9 out of 10 of these guys are making the Hitler connection because the work "socialist" is in the name of the Nazi party.

Iowa billboard linking Obama, Hitler removed
North Iowa Tea Party group drew criticism from other conservative activists

DES MOINES, Iowa — A billboard created by an Iowa tea party group comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin has been removed.

Kent Beatty, the general manager of the company that owns the billboard, says a North Iowa Tea Party representative called Tuesday night and asked that the sign in downtown Mason City be removed.

Beatty says his company replaced the sign Wednesday morning with a public service announcement.

The original sign showed photographs of Obama, Nazi leader Hitler and communist leader Lenin beneath the labels "Democrat Socialism," "National Socialism," and "Marxist Socialism."

Some tea party members criticized the sign, and North Iowa Tea Party co-founder Bob Johnson acknowledged the pictures overwhelmed the intended message of anti-socialism.

Yep, 1 sign in Northern Iowa proves that for sure. :)

Man, it's a stupid sign. 1 stupid sign. It's been removed, to help protect the stupid people that put it there (the North Iowa Tea Party) from appearing as stupid as they are to the rest of the world. What idiots.

But to think this is anyway indicative of anything national is just a bit of a stretch. I'm not saying your hypothesis that the tea party has been taken over by the repubs is wrong...I'm just saying that your proof of it is weak sauce.

And as a sidenote... I was on board with the initial Tea Party and the shake up in Congress. Those so-called representatives of ours need a swift kick in the ass. I figured, with a huge influx of Independent Party representatives, we could finally free ourselves of choosing between Cancer or AIDS in the ballot booths.

Most of these people don't seem to know the difference between communism, socialism and their right butt cheeks. In fact, most people don't know the difference. And this is scary. We live in a democracy, which depends on being reasonably educated, especially politically. This is something we have always sucked at in this country--teaching political ideologies, even among those going to college. To me, this seems like a backwater fear of other political systems and a way to rig knee jerks among the electorate so that your chosen demagogue can just utter "the magic words" necessary at the moment and be assured that no real argument needs to be made. It's so much easier to call someone a socialist and get everyone to jump to the right when they don't know any better than it is to call someone a socialist among people with any education and have them do much more than just laugh.
