    More fitting in this thread so I will repost it...

    With all this talk about Stern, I figure I will put in my 2 cents. I don't want this to come across as completely defending the guy, I have some problems with Stern as well. Namely, the piss poor quailty of NBA officiating and the fact they did not clear house after Donaghy.

    As I have mentioned to a few people around here I worked for the Sixers for a couple years out of college. During that time I had a chance to listen to Stern speak to a fairly small group of about 40-50 people. I was honestly completely shocked at how brilliant the guy is and how he understands almost every aspect of every team and city and challenges facing each team and city. It also seemed to me that he has to put up with a whole lot of bullshit. Basketball has changed quite a bit and it is not nearly as appealing as it used to be. Some may blame him but I don't really. Regular season NBA is now pretty boring to watch on TV and just as bad to watch in person unless you are sitting close to the floor.

    Someone I also worked with and am still friends with, now works directly with Stern and says he is quite possibly the hardest working and best person he has ever worked with.

    Goodell is the only commish that is popular and he has a pretty easy job considering he is running by far the most popular sport in America.

    I'm note sure why all the crap for Goddell...here's a breakdown of the number of players in each league...seems like Roger has his hands full...

    NBA - 450 players
    MLB - 750 players
    NHL - 947 players
    NFL - 1696 players

    The NFL has as many players as the MLB and NHL combined. And 3.8 times the number of players as the NBA. So after reviewing this...why are there so many player issues in the NBA, much easier job then any of the other leagues.

    because the NFL is a socialist organization ... revenue sharing ... rules to keep the playing field "fair" for all teams ... ;)

    Things that are wrong with the NBA:

    * Rules were changed in 2009 that allowed two full steps to be taken before a travelling violation
    * Ron Artest destroys a NBA franchise and then gets a ring
    * Officiating
    * Guys getting paid for 82 games a year but only showing up in the final 10 minutes of those games
    * Guys who are such a cancer to their teams that owners pay them to stay home for several years
    * Joe Johnson getting max money
    * Officiating
    * Teams tanking in the 2nd half for a chance to win a top lottery pick
    * Stern's decision for style over substance
    * Officiating

    The NBA is more sports entertainment then actual competition at this point.

    I like your list and I agree with all of it actually...

    But, like cdp, I still watch the NBA because it's what I loved growing up, and probably is what I'll always love. Realistically I'm just staying strong until David Stern's sorry ass is no longer in the picture...if that means waiting until his demise...I'm standing my ground.

    What specifically don't you like about Stern? I posted a ramble about him in the Lebron thread. It's seems to me he takes a lot of the blame for a product that has just gone down hill in the past 15-20 years.

    "* Stern's decision for style over substance"

    Basically that, and yeah, it has been going down hill in the past 15-20 years, those of which were commissioned by David Stern. I don't know, I just don't really like a lot of things he has done, but there are some things I don't mind...but it's out weighed by things I dislike.

    His association with the whole Sonics ordeal is what really made me lose much, much respect for him.
