    My speculation: till 2011.

    Reasons:
    Ed is getting married.
    They just toured, and they need a vacation cause they are old.
    Soundgarden tour soon = missing Matt.

    But what about the phantom 20th Anniversary show a handful of people around here put their entire late-2010 life and finances on hold for??

    They have been doing spring/summer tours for a while now

    no big surprise they will take the fall/winter off, especially with soundgarden

    It won't last long

    I don't think there will be a very long break... 2009 in London Ed said this was gonna be their last show in Europe for a long time and it took them 10 months to come back... I'm really hoping this 20 year anniversary thing is gonna happen!

    well I hope it's no longer than 2011....after all, it has been hinted by band members that there is a lot of "leftover" material from BS and other sessions...that will probably be released before too long.

    Of course they need time off and time with their families, and with their personal plans....

    And Matt will most likely be busy with SG for a time to come

    But GEEZ I really do hope it's not too awfully long

    Long enough for them to rest up

    And long enough for us to SAVE UP

    And that's long enough guys

    OK?

    NOTE TO SELF: Try not to get TOO old while waiting....cuz if I"m too old, then they're too old too and that can NOT happen! :?

    The whole Ed getting married thing is NOT delaying ANYTHING. A marriage takes a weekend, followed by maybe a week honeymoon.

    Ed's gotten married before, back when they were pumping out albums every year.

    It's a weird excuse. They are taking a break to do other things. Touring gets tiring. Who knows, maybe they are working on new music and/or side projects. A change of pace is good for an artist.

    well i have been lucky enough to see pearl jam in 2006 2008 and 2010 ...being south african its rare to see them as they never seem to want to tour south africa so i traveled to UK to see them...thousands it cost but worth every penny...so enjoy your break guys ...good luck with ur resting and family time
    thank you so much for the great memories of the shows i saw...
    but guys let this just be a holiday break for a year or 2 ...nothing perm ....ok

    dave matthews band is taking 2011 off and now PJ is taking a break ..... my two favorites ...

    maybe Ed and Dave will both make new solo albums

    or even better

    they will join forces (throw in Ben Harper ) and what an album that could be

    I really think he just meant it was the end of the tour, and people are over analyzing the whole thing. NME is being sensationalist by publishing that story with such a definitive title. Blah!

    I don´t really know... But i was in Oeiras when he said it, and i left the gig with a severe feeling of loss.
    It´s a well deserved rest but i couldn´t help the sadness.

    Exactly! Ed rambles alot on stage. You can't believe everything he say's. If you did, then you would know back in '08 in Europe he said the same thing. 5 month's later the band released ticket's for their summer European Tour. Bet you didn't see that coming now did you?
