A while back I resigned myself to skipping the Biloxi show based solely on monetary reasons and I've been very remorseful about that. Been feeling pretty lame because who knows when (or if) I'll ever have another chance to see the Crowes!!
So, my remorse was eating at me today so I checked for tickets...can still get general admission tix right in front of the stage, so, DAMN IT, I'm going. Debt be damned. You only live once, right?
I've been really struggling on whether to commit to San Fran... :?
It's obvious that I'll be squeezing by on finances and could really use the money it'll take to get there...but, at the same time because of the concert lover and huge Crowes fan I am...I already see the remorse that I would feel if I don't go.
God damnit...
Well I got tickets last night. And I'm so glad I did. I got two but at this point I don't know for sure if anybody is going to be able to go with me on such short notice. Maybe you need to jet down to Mizzip and go with me DC. I'll go by my damn self if I have to

Just got an email from Stubb's in Austin informing me that the Black Crowes show in Austin is now An Evening with The Black Crowes. No opening act. Yay!!!
So I will get the acoustic/electric set Friday in Houston, an extended electric set Saturday in Austin, and a standard show with an opening act Sunday in Dallas.

That's cool. I'm pretty sure the one I'm going to is not "An Evening With.." so does that mean there will be an opening band for certain? Who has been opening when there have been openers?

I am not sure. I know the opener in Dallas is Band of Heathens. I listened to some of their stuff on their web site and they sound a little like Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Yeah, they're great! That's the best opening band I have seen the Crowes have in a long time. I could not stand Buffalo Killers and some of those other guys they were running out there.
Yeah, Truth and Salvage Co. is cool. Got their album a while back. I wouldn't mind seeing them at all but I would rather have 3 hours of Crowes either way

Put this little tidbit in one of the vinyl threads, so figured some people here might be interested...If anybody was wondering about particulars, just ask
The Southern Harmony... reissue is pretty solid, The sound isn't as good as it could be. There is some mud in a few of the denser moments, but it's quiet as a mouse and there is some good separation most of the time. Still has alotta high points(it peaks on Thorn In My Pride). I've read there are quality control issues, but mine was fine.
just thought i might say thanks to everyone in this thread and those who contributed to the other black crowes thread for getting me on to some great new music

Funny you should mention this; I almost ordered the re-issued vinyl they have on amazon.com but it was getting a lot of negative reviews based on the quality of the vinyl. I didn't buy one based on some of those reviews.
Just downloaded the St. Louis, MO 27th Aug show and it's one of the best BC shows I've ever heard. Wish this tour would come to the UK :(

I'm fairly certain it IS NOT a two-set show unfortunately. At least I'm pretty sure that's what it was when they first announced the tour...I know they've changed a couple of dates at least to two-setters that were orginally not planned to be though.
Edit...well it's not Buffalo Killers either...they're in Ohio that night
Edit #2: Hell, duh, stoopid. I just called the damn venue and they said it was to be all Crowes. So that made me happy

Just to clear things up for you guys. Even if they are all electric shows with no opening act they are NOT EXTENDED ELECTRIC SHOWS. They will be 2 hours tops. I saw them in Jacksonville this week and they blew the fuckin roof off. Next night in Orlando, no opening act, still listed as an evening with but only electric. Show started at 8:35 and was over by 10:20. Great performance but the crowd was left wanting more and people were standing around for awhile in disbelief that the show was actually over. I thought for sure they would still rock out til 11:00 but oh well. So don't expect to get extra time on the electric only shows, there is a reason they are on average $20 cheaper.
On another note, I can't wait for the two shows in November in Atlanta. and Everyone who goes to shows from now on needs to scream and plead for Cursed Diamond because the neglect they are giving that song which is easily one of their best has gone on long enough. FUCKIN PLAY THAT DAMN SONG ALREADY
just curious as to whether anyone thinks they might release a live album from this last tour? I no they have the bootlegs and such but maybe a compilation of the last shows at the fillmore?
Houston - this was a double set (acoustic/electric) and a 3 hour show. Absolutely blown away. I love the double set idea and don't know why they don't do it at every show. As usual they had a nice mix of hits, rarities and covers. The only complaint I have, and this is about all three shows I saw, is they basically ignored Warpaint and BTF/UTF and those are two of my favorites. But I had a list of songs I had to hear on this, my last Crowes show and I got many of them. Toni (my wife) and I lined up early for this one and almost got the rail, but not quite. Still it was close enough for eye contact and some winks and nods from Chris and Rich.
Houston was the Rich Robinson show. For some reason, I could not hear Luther much. Rich was way loud and he ended up taking most of the solos. He unleashed a monster on Wiser Time. I have seen them many, many times. I am not sure I have ever heard Rich wail like that before. He has such an awesome tone.
Was dying to hear Driving Wheel so I can't believe they pulled that one out!! Smile was a treat too as was Another Roadside Tragedy. Lots of songs from Three Snakes. I Just Want to See His Face is a Rolling Stones song they have never played. Rich on vocals.
The only negative was this: The Black Crowes have implemented a no camera policy this year. You've seen the thread talking about cameras and video. Well, after Remedy, Chris goes, "I'd like to thank all of you who respected our wishes and didn't point your fucking technology at us all night. Except you sir (pointing a guy in the crowd), you are fucking douchebag." Apparently the guy took a lot of pics or was filming the whole thing.
Also, Nonfiction is a set killer for me. I love the song, hate the 15 minute nothing-but-noise jam at the end. They have so many great jams. This is not one of them.
I'll do Austin and Dallas later.

I would love to hear Driving Wheel myself. Looking forward to your other reviews.
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
