As for actual commentators, Dwayne Russel is ok, but he always says the same things. Because I only hear him when he commentates on the Swans he will go on nearly every match about Kieran Jacks Dad, Brett Kirk being de-listed by the swans and then coming back, and how his father played AFL with only one hand. He needs new material Paul Bevan and LRT being good tacklers because of their Rugby background.

I like Robert Walls. I respect his opinion, particularly on one week at a time. But I don't get to hear much of his commentary because unless the Swans are on, we get Saturday night games here at 11.30 and Friday night games too.

the only semi decent footy shows on tv i reckon are on the couch with hird (cant stand sheehan.. hes still living in 1998 and seemingly hasnt seen a game involving a non victorian team since!). but i have a lot of respect for hird and healy. footy classified on 9 is ok. GT speaks his mind and lyon is alright when actually talking about football (rather than the inane bullshit that goes on on the footy show). hutchy just makes up rumours...
as for russell.. he has a gigantic chip on his shoulder. being a port supporter he'll have a a dig at the crows wherever he can, and like you said, never gets new material! always talking about their previous club or where they were taken in the draft and who the club could have picked instead etc...

Unfortunately in Sydney we don't get those other shows.

We get game day on 72 on Sunday, Afl footy show on Thursday at around Midnight and one week at a time is on at 9.30.

I have a beef with how AFL is broadcast into Sydney.

Channel one might be made for sports lovers, yet on a Saturday night, instead of playing the match of the day at 7.30 they will play re-runs of netball followed by some stupid wrestling that isn't even WWE (not that it would change my stance, but this one is even faker than fake). If it is a sports channel, lets put sport on, not acting.

Channel 7 will play Friday night footy at 11.30. Why they can't put it earlier on 72 is beyond me.

All Sydney games are broadcast up here on free to air, which I am extremely grateful for. But what gets me is, yesterday the siren goes at 3.45 and no on-field interview, no team song just cut straight to the v8s. If I wanted to watch cars racing, I would walk 5 mins up to the free way and watch some hoons floor it.

Oh lord...was up till 3am on Friday night because Tim's team was playing his twin's team :roll: Have to say it's the one sport that actually holds my interest. And it doesn't hurt that the players don't wear padding...so you can see the good bits :oops:

I was falling asleep watching this game. Considering it came on at 11.30. I fell asleep in the 3rd quarter with a 'this can't be happening' woke up with 20 sec to go with a 'this didn't happen'

As long as the Swans beat the Blues it's all good.
