    Alas Arras!

Well you can probably tell from the mega short set (shortest I think I've ever seen - my train ride to and from the show was longer!!) that tonight wasn't exactly in the realm of 'epic' show.

I do love France it is a fantastic place to visit but I have only one word for the crowd tonight - merde !!

I am surprised the band didn't pull out Comatose tonight as a tribute to the crowd's lack of energy (that is harsh but fair!).

That said any night I get to see Pearl Jam is a good night and the band were in fine form. I loved the UK into Got Some openin and it is always good to hear SOLAT.

The guys were doing their utmost to get the crowd going but alas Arras just couldn't step up.

Ed came down to the crowd during Porch for a light jog along the barrier but my real highlight was Baba - I just love me a Who cover!!!

I am hoping the Belgian crowd at Werchter tomorrow night can put in a good show and get some love happening.

    Over and out.

PS - I am advised that Brother and Grievance were on the setlist and were replaced by Of the Earth and Comatose (which would have been fitting!!) Was replaced by Black - zut alors!!!

Short setlist (damned festival) but I was at the barrier on Stone's side ... and I got a pick from Mike !!!
Heading off to Werchter tomorrow with a sick line-up.

Seems like a show to get a person started. I wonder after Bonnaroo festivals are strict with Pearl Jam with the time?

I know Pearl Jam went 3 hours at Bonnaroo when they were supposed to only go two and then we had to hear it from Kanye. But Bonnaroo is awesome, though.

It was short but in my opinion worth it, but of course it's only from my perspective.
I was about 3-4 row infront of Mike and the pit was veeeryyyy crazy, almost fell over ten times and got elbowed harshly etc. Mike looked really worried at times, for a reason.. it was pretty messed up. Not so much fans in the crowd in my opinion... lots of drunk french dudes.. ah well.

I enjoyed it for the most part, sang my lungs out.. :) Mike was on FIRE!! I love you Mike. <3 (and others too.. just to be fair.. :D)

For me the show felt a lot longer than what could be deciphered from the setlist...The craziness that was going on in the pit.. pushing, elbowing and other shit. I guess one of the reasons it was "short"could be to save us from any further damage.

I had a sign that said INSIDE JOB.. I guess Mike hinted it could probably be played in Werchter or somewhere else.. sadly this was my final show for this tour. So sad that I have to go back to work... I would give anything to just spend my whole life following them from one gig to another.. (to the band: are you sure you dont need a Tour-Nurse of your own.... I'm available.) =))

Hahahh.. after the show a bunch of us slept outside for a while (on the coldconcrete ground.. or whatever marble it was) in Arras due to many different reasons.. one of them being that the train station was closed in the night. It was COLD, I almost froze to death. Went inside the station as soon as it opened to warm myself up. :D
Currently waiting for my flight back home in Paris airport. +)

Hmmm, another short European festival show. This only compounds my arguements for a proper indoor tour for anyone this side of the pond. :|

I love the band. I thought my first show was way to short (Hartford 98) But if this was my first show and heard how legendary the live shows are I would want an explanation. It wouldn't have to be from the 5 guys themselves. It would be nice to get some reason. I wasn't even there and I feel bad for everyone who was expecting more. Do you think they will charge 1/2 price for the boot :D Anyways for what its worth this is my 2 cents. (I guess its worth 2 cents) :?

Sets are almost always "short" at festivals. I'm tired of reading people complaining about how "short" the sets are.
Yes, this is shorter than an usual PJ show, but this is not shorter than many other bands' shows. And at festivals, they don't have the choice, the possibility, to play longer. There is curfew and rules they are obliged to follow.

I was there yesterday and the show really kicked ass, even if considered as short. 1/2 or 1 hour more would have been good, of course, but I didn't feel disappointed when they left the stage. The energy was good, and the sound was pretty good.

How long was the show? 90 minutes?

I've got to say that if I'd traveled from Denmark for 90 minutes I would have been dissapointed.. I don't quite understand why they play so many festivals this time around, when it's obviously not their favorite thing :?:

    yes, 90 minutes.
We think it's short because we're used that they play longer than that. But, in comparison with many other bands, a 90 minutes set is the norm.
I would have preferred a longer show, obviously. But the show was good. be it a 90 minutes show, or a 3 hours show.

I am sure it was a curfew thing and France can be quite harsh in that respect.

must have been a curfew thing from the festival strickly enforeced as thats the shortest show i have seen in a very long time possibly for 10 years or so... i think the pinkpop 2000 show was short also.

But the BAND has a choice on playing festivals or proper shows. As lastexitlondon states - people put a lot of time, money and effort in going to see them, and it would be nice(r) if the shows were a 2hr minimum, with the 2 encore deal everywhere else gets.

That's such a silly way of looking at it. We don't know how difficult it is to book a proper tour and secure venues or whatever. Perhaps the band set out a tour schedule and decided to hit all these places but couldn't get venues for the dates they wanted for whatever reason. So festivals might have been the next best thing.

Well then, don't ever go to the Bridge School Benefit where they play for about 40 minutes.

You can't go to a festival and expect a full show from any band, anyway. Timelines are genrally very strict.

It's nice to read the other reviews that are more positive - glad some people had fun!

Short set list, venue pain to get to!
Ben Harper should be replaced as all was the same as during their Australian tour shows! Way too predictable! Ben on stage with PJ, Eddie on stage with Ben..
Even the merch was the same. Just with a different date on the back.

    Disappointing..

I hear you,I wasn't there but people seem to forget it is a FESTIVAL...know what to expect.
If your not happy stay home.No one is forcing you to go.It does suck that this tour is mostly festivals.
I am fortunate to live in the northeastern US and PJ plays alot of shows and seems to enjoy the crowd support
I would be very happy to be catching a few shows this summer in Europe, since my last was MSG2 in May.
    Peace :!:

Yes, it was a short setlist with few surprises, but frankly great energy from the band! I saw a post saying the crowd wasn't that great, but from where I was (second row back just off to the side of Mike) people were intensely into the show. Everyone was singing along. I wish it had gone on longer too, but as it finished at just after 1, it was a bit of a walk back to the train station. Any longer and it would have been a close call. However, had the whole thing started earlier then they could have had more time. Lily and the Prick were decent, Julian Casablancas was a moppy and seemed like he didn't want to be their at all, Pheonix could have used a longer set list and should have been on later, potentially right before Pearl Jam. First time seeing Ben Harper and I thoroughly enjoyed his set.... I really didn't understand -M-. Just a bit too cheesy.

Oddly, i didn't find the crowd so rough as some people are saying. Good energy, but only once was there shoving around where I was. A better experience to be able to watch the stage than watch around me all the time.

Super glad to finally hear Porch! SOLAT was great. I thought the new song was really good and I can't wait to hear a final version. UK was great live as an opener too.

It was also my girlfriend's first show and she got a whole new appreciation for Pearl Jam. So hey, it was routine for some the loyal fans, but they managed to win over at least one converet.
