Piano intro

So for the past few years we are all made aware it's time for the guys to come out when we hear that piano intro

Q1 - What is it? Is it taken from somewhere or is it a product of the band (or Boom)

Q2 - Why don't they put it on the Bootlegs. I realise the band don't play it but I still think it's part of the show, put it on I say!

A1- Metamorphosis Two by Philip Glass; on his 'Solo Piano' album. Has nothing to do with anyone in the band.

A2- Probably because it has nothing to do with the band and licensing the music for hundreds of bootlegs isn't worth it.
  • I had no idea about this at my first concert and when I heard it, I thought "What?? What song is this???" and then Sometimes started. :D
Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire?

I'll not lose my faith, it's an inside job today

You can hear a few seconds of it on the Bristow Boot before the opener, Small Town, starts. I love that it's on there! Helps me re-live the excitement of that night knowing the show was about to start.

I thought it was Escape..by Phillip Glass..also on "The Hours" soundtrack. It is so simple yet powerful..not surprised that the band found it, but yet know only they would .

the hours soundtrack re-uses several bits of older philip glass material, including metamorphosis two in the track you mentioned- he didn't exactly create that entire soundtrack from scratch.

the question I always have is do they then license every cover song they include on the boots???? seems like that would be a licensing logistical nightmare. need a lawyer or someone from music biz to chime in here.

now, i personally wouldn't mind hearing more of these openers on the boots. come on, the 94 Atlanta Fox show opener...gives me the chills! that's another awesome one.

My wife picked this out immediately as from "The Hours" soundtrack. She was thrilled.

there is a significant difference between a live performance of a cover song and simply putting a recording of an existing work that has nothing to do with the band on a bootleg. the band don't have to license performed covers (though they would have to pay royalties should they make money on whatever is being sold with that performance on it). they would have to license the glass piece, though, because it is an existing recording being used. live covers performed by the band don't have the same requirements.
