Repeat setlists?

I was wondering, after looking at Philly 4 set list and then MSG 2 set list from this year, the set lists are kind of similar and was wondering if pearl jam has played the same exact set list (recently, i realize they did it quite a lot in the earlier days) so from 2000 and beyond have they repeated the exact same set list?

Curious your thoughts on this... just went and saw tool in Texas and the set list was 11 songs long and the same set list they've been playing for 3 years or so now and just really appreciate the diversity of pearl jams set lists, but i haven't seen one exactly the same, ever i think.

PJ is probably the most diverse live show. U2 plays the same set list all the time. Most bands do. Tool has only 10 decent songs anyway (the albums that don't sound the same anyway - Aenima and Opiate). I'll never understand why bands with such an extensive catalog play radio edits for the entire show. However, because each PJ album has so many great songs, diversity is easy. McCready opened with "Inside Job" recently and "Tremor Christ" was played at the first Gibson show. PJ will usually play 26 or more songs per show.

On my count 18 songs repeat from these two shows. 43 songs was played at Philly 4 and 36 songs were played at New York 2. So thats 25 songs played at Philly 4 and not at MSG 2, and 18 songs played at MSG 2 that were not played at Philly 4. They didn't have the same openers, they didn't have the same covers, and the repeating songs are for the most part spread over at different points between the two shows. They are similar in that both shows had songs played by Pearl Jam, but that's about it.

I'm pretty sure they haven't repeated any since the early 90's, but two shows in 2000 were pretty damn similar.

The first 13 songs are the same and the rest of the show is pretty close, too.

I don't understand why groups that have a great catalog of songs play the same songs every night. Rolling Stones and U2 change maybe one or two songs each night. Sometimes they keep the same songsin every night. Maybe because of the big stage productions, everything has to be planned in advance? PJ and Springsteen are the best at changing their set lists every night. I wish Bruce would put out live "bootlegs" like PJ does. He has a loyal following who would appreciate it very much.

no, this isn't true. there are tons of bands out there that play completely different setlists every night. pearl jam gets props for making sure each show is different from the others, but to say they're the most diverse...no.

Dublin 2010 and London 2010 I found was similiar.

Milan 2000 and Sweden 2000 is similar.

We should be glad they mix it up, but also I think they could mix up DTE/GTF/Corduroy some more, throw in some Brain of J, Breakerfall etc.

I have to disagree with London 2009 and Dublin 2010.
I know Betterman is a fan favourite but I would like if they threw in Breathe alot more.

the comparison is London 2010 and 2010 in Dublin... Look again as they are very similar

Yeah, bit of a shame London was so similar, but that's for a fairly small minorityof fans. Dublin was a great show so... can't really complain too much!

I think Pearl Jam do a pretty good job of mixing things up for their fans that see a lot of shows. It's not always going to change that much, but that's expected - they're playing to thousands of people that want to hear certain things.

St Louis and Indy 2010 were close. Not the same openers, but same covers, both had Garden, Jeremy, and even Down(not frequently played songs..being the point). Both solid shows, but did a double take at the setlists when my wife asked me "Weren't those shows almost too much alike for only being a couple days apart?"

it's for efficiency and risk aversion. Your soundchecks don't take as long (if at all needed), and you and the entire band know what to expect and can put on a great show with minimal flubs....not every band has fans who travel to see 8000 shows
