Well it's still going on. There are now almost 20,000 in the Facebook group, petitions and emails going out constantly with the recipients inboxes overloading. Born Free are working tirelessly with the local protesters and trying to free these dolphins. The owner, a disgusting piece of garbage has said he'll release them if he gets £360,000 in damages. I can't understand why the Turkish Tourist board aren't doing something as it's giving Turkey a very bad image.

Absolutely signed and facebook group joined. I can't believe someone in their right mind would think that any marine creature could live there let alone two intelligent and gorgeous creatures such as Misha and Tom. I read recently (it was also said on The Cove) that dolphins suffer extreme mental damage from being kept in environments like that. Their sonar/echo-location continually bounces off the walls of the tank, and that, combined with the stress of working constantly as well as having no stimulation, causes the dolphins to basically go mad and become extremely depressed... Seeing those two in that pool is too heartbreaking for words
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
It's good news! After months of numerous people sending emails and petition signing the 2 dolphins Tom and Misha have finally been freed. Yesterday they were transported to Gokova, a bay near Bodrum for rehabilitation. Apparently it will take about 8 months before they are ready to be released into the wild. They will only be released when a pod of dolphins is in the area.
Thanks to all on here who showed there support and signed the online petiton. The organisers who worked tirelessly have now set there sights on releasing all captive dolphins in Turkey and a new Facebook group was started yesterday. If you wish to join here's the link. http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/gro ... 2280960717

It certainly is and hopefully it won't be too long before other dolphins in various hell holes are released. We can at least hope.
We can. And it's only because of dedicated people like yourself that these animals have a chance. I know you said you only played a small part, but thank you... and please, pass on thanks to others who helped this campaign get success

After almost 19 months the dolphins have been trained to hunt and are close to being freed into the wild. Jeff Foster, who rehabilitated Keiko, the killer whale in the film Free Willy has worked with the 2 dolphins.
There was an article in 2 of the UKs daily newspapers.
On a sadder note one of the women who worked tirelessly to free the dolphins died last year. It's sad she won't be there to see the final release.
The amount of ignorance in the world regarding captive dolphins / whales is staggering, these places need to be shut down. These beautiful animals imprisoned just for the fun of the public, please remember that if you feel the urge to visit the Seaworlds of this world with the family.
Recently the UK's ITV TV channel has offered a price for a holiday to Dubai that included swimming with captive dolphins. A member of Free the Oludeniz dolphins contacted the ITV to complain about this prize. The reply apologised and said that while they couldnt take away that prize at it had been advertised for a while they wouldn't do a competition like this again.
