I say no it is not a sport - anything that is judged to me is not a sport but an event or competition, but not a sport. gymnastics is not a sport either in my opinion. and it's not about how hard you practice or anything of that nature, yes it may be athletic, but not a sport. what do you think?

  • A sport has to have a clear winner or decision based on a factual score.

Anything "judged" is most definitely NOT a sport, but a competition just like you said.

So unless there is a knockout, Boxing is not a sport?

well Boxing is a hard case for this but I say it is a sport because of the ability to knock someone out defines a clear cut winner - it only goes to scorecards when a clear cut winner can't be decided. so yes I say boxing is a sport (a crooked sport but a sport).

I wouldn't say that... in my opinion, figure skating, gymnastics, freestyle skiing, etc., are sports, even though they are judged.

but cheerleading... absolutely not. It seems like such a useless thing in sports too.

Well I'm certainly not questioning the athletic skill involved with the events you mentioned, I just think that a sport is decided "on the field" while things that are left for others to decide are not. It's really just semantics I suppose.

Although it is judged, it still has the competition aspect which makes it a sport, it also involves training and athletic conditioning.

is Cheerleading a sport? No, not as far as I'm concerned.

And neither is this but it's still shown on sports channels.

A "sport" is merely a recreactional event if you look up the definition.. You can also be a sport. Sport a new look, and so on..

Technically, playing monopoly is a sport.

I'm not sure how the term came to only represent competive sports with high physical exertion..

I don't think whether or not it is judged defines it as a sport...
Freestyle skiing and half-pipe snowboarding being good examples.
    Olympic diving as well

Baseball has a guy who judges whether each pitch is a ball or a strike based on his own interpretation. Hockey has a guy who judges whether or not a goal actually occured (he is actually called the goal judge). Are those not sports?

Yes Dancing with the Stars is a sport, especially meeting the athletic conditioning criteria, those chicks are smoking, just like Bring it On chicks. BTW, women's beach volley ball also a sport, men's beach volley ball not a sport. Do you understand my reasoning?

No it is not. Just because you work up a sweat doesn't make it a sport.

And for that matter, NASCAR is not a sport either, much to the disagreement of most southerners.

Cheerleading isn't a sport. Not to say that some cheerleaders aren't athletes, it's just that athletic ability isn't a prerequisite to be a cheerleader. If you can yell, you can lead a cheer.

You can have a competition for anything and that alone doesn't make it a sport.

I think so. Basically anything that has moving breasts?
