I think they know by now it's in the wrong forum. Quit being a douche. It's bad enough you are a Mets Fan. I guess the two go hand in hand. I thought that was just a stereotype. And how can you say Phish, MMJ, and DMB are better when you havent seen them live? You better know what the fuck your talking about before you open your mouth.

I've never been as blown away by ANY musician live as I was by DC.
I was shaking my head and pickin my jaw up from the floor by the end of nearly every song. His drumming on the albums is amazing, he takes it to an entirely different level live.

Second last time I saw them, the drummer from Meshuggah set up an electronic kit in the middle of the stage, and Maynard grabbed a bass guitar...they jammed with two bassists and two drummers for about 15 minutes. It was probably the most disgustingly intense thing I've experienced at a concert, ever.
They're here next month, can't wait.

They're one of those bands I recommend any music fan see live, even if you're not crazy about their tunes. Just the visuals and DC are worth the price of admission.

how can a band be the 2nd best live act when they are using a recycled setlist. that doesn't make sense at all. bruce springsteen and phish and dmb and mmj are all better then tool live. tool are great at what they do but to say they are the 2nd best live act out today is just you being a fanboy of them. not hating or anything. :)

btw- outta those 4 bands i mentioned I've only seen the boss and eband

I think it's kinda unfair to criticize a band's live show if you've never seen them. Having seen them 15 times or so, I can tell you that they are among the best live bands I've seen (which is a lot, including Dave, Phish, and MMJ). I would agree that Maynard's mind has seemed to be elsewhere the last couple shows. It's encouraging that Tool and APC are both working on new music; after seeing those last two shows, I was convinced he was gonna hang it up (or at least take a break).

Not criticizing tool at all. Just saying its kinda a bit off the wall to say they are the 2nd best live band when they are using recylced setlist. Doesn't that seem silly to say. if you even read ALL of my post I actually gave them props. But I guess that part just went right over your head .

And if u read my post properly, i stated that Tool and PJ were the 2 best live bands in the world today.....my statement was that Tool on the last couple of tours has been recycling setlists with no new material.....i guess that part went over your head...but then again,i forgot that u form your opinions based on bands that you've seen live (or didn't)....i read all of your post but u kind of lost me when u raved about live acts that u didn't see yourself...now doesn't THAT seem silly to say? Let me know if u need help understanding what i was trying to say and i'll break it down for ya, though it seems pointless and a waste of time to enter into a discussion that u obviously know nothing about....read between the lines

How can you say a band is the 2nd best live out act today when they haven't been using new songs. Just answer me that question. If you'd like to get into pissing match I'd be more then happy to drag this out. Least its helping me kill time at work.

I can say dmb and phish and mmj are better then tool cause they don't play the same setlist night in and night and can play for hours and bring in huge dollars for themselves on tour. I can also can say those bands are better cause I have tons of lives shows on my ipod from them.

See how fun pissing matches can be  :lol. least you were mature and didn't call me a douchebag like some other people in this thread.

Shouldn't a band's quality live be judged on how it plays the songs it plays, rather than what songs it plays? It seems to me that it makes no difference whether or not a band mixes up its setlist every night - only a tiny minority of fans at any given show are going to attend a number of different shows on any given tour anyway. I'd rather see a band kick the shit out of the same songs every night than a band play different songs poorly every time they go onstage. Would I prefer a band to mix it up? Yes. Will it lessen my enjoyment of a show knowing the band is playing the same songs it played last week, at a concert I didn't attend? No. Especially not with a band like Tool, who has an intricate light/video show that's synched to the music. From the moment a song starts until the moment it stops 8 minutes later you know they're going to crush it out of the park, and have a freaky awesome light/video show going on simultaneously that only adds to the experience.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

Nothing went over my head; I understood your post completely. It just seems like an odd practice to compare bands' live performances that you haven't seen (especially when you see a bunch of great reviews from people who have seen some, if not all, of those bands). It's like having an opinion on a movie you've never seen or a restaurant you've never been to. Why chime in just to criticize? (And, yes, asserting that a band not mixing up their setlist night to night impacts their live show is, by definition, criticism.)

I agree, cajun! I saw them last night in Sacramento and it was great! Pearl Jam is the only band I would see more than once on a tour, so what do I care what they played last night or tomorrow night? I stayed away from this thread because I figured the setlist would be the same when I saw them and I was right. Didn't stop my enjoyment at all. It's a completely different animal from Pearl Jam.

The crowd was really good and Sac crowds are usually pretty lame. Trent Reznor called them out one of his last times through.

I've only been to see the Tool "lite" APC who were incredible but Tool will be one of the next shows I attend hopefully. Anyone who says that setlist is short doesn't know anything about how good a live band they are or how long they play for. I watched The Mars Volta play for 100 mins and I think they only played 5 songs so setlists mean nothing if you don't know a band and it's music. By the way this setlist looks awesome to me!! :) Can't wait for the new album..

I saw Sunn O))) play for over an hour and only play 1 song. Although I guess the word "song" is a bit mis-leading....

Quality rather than quantity. The number of songs played doesn't dictate how good a band is. Tool do what they do and they do it well. Very fucking well. Embrace the diversity.

I wish I could have seen Intolerance and The Patient. I went to the 2nd Red Rocks show and they changed things up a little. We got Intension (which was really cool), Right In Two and Flood. That was the 3rd time I've seen them in support of 10,000 Days and I'm really ready for something new.

I witnessed TOOL last night (7/15) in San Diego...
    First TOOL show...

    WOW

Let me preface this all by saying I love all music, especially good live music...always wanted to see TOOL live, finally happened...

What a gig - Danny Carey is an absolute beast on the drums - blew my mind. I will not miss another TOOL show locally, that is for sure. This is a MUST see show if you dig their music - the lights and videos, while enhancing their tunes, were cool, but distracting...the drums and bass totally mesmerize you - sick show.

    PEACE!
