Terminator:
-Horrible soundtrack
-Horrible 80's dancing
-Horrible overuse of now antiquated technology (like walkmans with over-the-shoulder harnesses)
-Good use of suspense

So... Terminator = bad or good movie?

(add your own questionable movie below)

Is "Terminator" a good or bad movie, by your personal standards.

I gave some pros and cons, but it's up to you.

....I'm watching it now, and it seems to be very dated, compared to other films from around that era.

    The 80's cheese doesn't matter, it's a classic!
Now, with Commando....you might have an argument ;)

    THE GOONIES = AWESOME!!

    spock_slap.gif

Saw it 7 times in the theater when it came out.

...of course seeing it recently on cable, I realize fatal flaws in the movie. Such as how and why would a pirate, presumably rich but still somewhat limited in resources be able to create such an elaborate set of boobie traps. Like the piano that if you play the keys wrong drops you into infinity...

However, still an amazing film, for a "kids film".

I'll TAKE your Goonies, and RAISE you Indiana Jones 4 (the recent one).

This question is all in the eye of the beholder. Movies for me that I would consider questionable are Lord of the Rings and The Departed.

Commando doesn't have the cheese that Terminator had. Aside from an old cell phone, it looks fairly ambiguous in date. ...though as I'm watching Terminator now on amc, it's getting better now that they're out of the clubs and away from the material which dates it so significantly.

....but seriously, living tissue can travel thru time, but machines can't. Unless they're wrapped in living tissue? Are we talking physics and science, or are we talking about sneaking by a security guard to travel thru time? Either inorganic material can travel thru time, or it can't. ...my OP question stands.

ya, the eye of the beholder thing makes this hard to do...are we doing 'popular movies that suck'...or 'really dated movies that kinda suck cause they're dated'...or....:D
Those bloody Twilight movies are borderline, and I think the fact that I even started to sit thru one makes me borderline too.

edit: for the record I didn't see it in theatres and knew only that it was about vampires :D

For me its just a hack movie at this point. The over acting is palatable. It wins all these awards and yes, it was well made, but its just a joke. Sheen, Walberg, Baldwin and Jack, the king of over acting.

I was flip flopping on my earlier decision that Commando is borderline, because of my childhood crush on the damsel in distress.....Alyssa Milano (SM was her character on Who's the Boss? In those days).

Back on point, Indiana Jones and the Mountain of Suck = BAD!

A monkey knows who is the bad guy to jump out of a tree and attack during a car chase?
    Just a bad bad film.

Staying along those lines how about "Rocky Balboa"?

    Terminator is an excellent flick.

Don't think i've ever watched goonies in totality.

    Indiana Jones 4 was brutal.

Dude...dated or not, that movie is fucking classic. It's 80's gold. Schwarzenegger's coolest, and most memorable role. For how low budget it was, it blew up and has become an iconic film.

In conclusion: The Terminator isn't just good.....it's fucking awesome.

The Original is much better. 'Infernal affairs'. Its subtitled but its a great watch. Beats The Departed hands down.

It's funny you started this thread because I was kind of thinking of starting a similar thread about the movie Footloose. Absolutely lame dance scenes, the soundtrack, although great at the time, is pretty hard to listen to now. But still, it's a classic and probably in my top three for 80's movies.

A movie is for entertainment purposes only. It's not to be supported with factual data and accurate time travel hypotheses. That's going a little too deep into the overall goal of the film which is to allow you to see a fucking movie on a big screen....and to pocket a little cash.

The Terminator - Really? Is it supposed to be the standard by which all travel into the past is supposed to be based on? Living tissue surviving atmospheric reentry and cyborg memory chips being created to withstand the heat of our ozone and a severe crash landing which doesn't damage fiber optics....please. I'm more concerned about how a Delorean can manage to fly. That's horseshit. Which brings us to...

    Back to the Future....questionable

Love The Terminator. Doesn't matter how dated it may look, it's a great story. Action, suspense, do-or-die mission to save mankind, tragic love story, something there for everybody.
