I train military personnel on how to spot and avoid IED attacks. Right now, there are about 24-25 IED and roadside bomb incidents every day in Afghan.
Once detonated, the needles become like other shrapnel. But they are really designed to stick in the fingers and hands of EOD (bomb disposal) techs as they sift thru the sand to uncover and disarm these bombs. They are actually laying face down on them when they do this.
Some other tactics the Taliban are currently employing:
-breast implant bombs for women. (PETN: the chem that was used by Xmas bomber) The doctors performing these were trained at UK med school, and have returned to their home countries to perform these surgeries.
This is to avoid the new body scanners that show off your junk to the TSA. Undetectable.
-"Suppository bomb" inserted into the ass of the bomber. No shit. look it up.

I pray our troops will come home safely.

I don't know much about HIV but I do know it's not air born and takes a blood to blood transfer to spread,

Come on, is there really anyone taking that article seriously?? The Taliban are going running around the place looking for infected needles to plant into bombs? Lord God, lets get perspective back here please - clearly someone at the Sun was under pressure for a story and this is what he / she came up with. It's a scare story ment to provoke outrage and garner support for a war becomming more and more unpopular by the day.
I mean, if we were to be serious and to believe this - what are the stats on being pricked by an infected needle leading to being infected yourself? certainly not 100% (and isn't maximum damage what is intended from IED). So for the plan to really have maximum damage would require fellas chasing soliders around the place with infected needles so that they can be sure to administer the contents themselves.
There are many examples, in the past, of these type of news stories - Britian could be attacked within 45 minutes if Saddamn so wished, Iraq has WMD's, swine flu will kill us all etc etc etc...

OK, but we're not really going to get into the whole: The reason for the war was completly bogus, and found to be so though right?
Because it would seem kind of silly to debate something like that, given that the whole premise for the invasion was based on lies. I mean hindsite is 20/20, so we know now that it was crap - it could be argued that most knew at the time - but once those war drums start beating on that side of the water, only blood will appease the beast.
No, I am stanchly against the war in Iraq. Its just that some people seem to assume that the whole WMD thing was entirely made up, when in fact the "spin" was based on history. Still spin, and still lies, granted.
