For those who say the 2010 bootleg quality is bad...

You need to get those plastic earbuds out of your ear and listen on a REAL system!

I just got boston, playing it through my Panasonic 7.1 surround sound 1250 w system... the bass is thick, the crowd is loud, the snare is tight, the vocals are up... it sounds great!

I personally think the bootlegs from Bonnarroo and Va Beach 08 also sound great on my system.

But the 2010 boots sound really nice, i cant want for 5-18 - 5-21 to come out!

Ditto on that one. No complaints when actually played on a REAL stereo/surround system.

Good to hear. The Sony walkman X-series is great for listening to boots too with the noise cancelling headphones and has a top equalizer. If you're going to listen to PJ you need to it right!

you must have an incredible magical system from imaginary fairyland if you can get some of those 08 boots to sound great. they are easily some of the worst ever.

no im just not really into boots that sound like the band played in an empty parking lot with speakers they picked up at a salvage store the night before. that and they were pretty ragged that tour, but i can forgive that.

St Louis is the best sounding of any of the more recent ones that I've listened to. Lucky I was at the show.

I know just kidding around. Some moments on the 08 boots are quite bad soundwise. Bonnaroo I thought was ok and MSG2, some others were half decent but the quality went downhill gradually from there to eventually being very poor. Especially at the price :|

No, their not in 7.1 but you can make it come from each channel so it is in 7.1

and no, not a magical system from fairy land, just a decent set of speakers instead of cheap plastic ipod earbuds.

My system is 1250 watts, and i play the cds on about 21 of 50. So, no, not a magic system, just one that sounds really good with it turned up a little.

I know its not LO2L quality, but, it doesnt sound bad, AT ALL

    Boston rocked : )

Actually, for anyone who complains about the bottleg quality... you're spoiled as all hell. There isn't another band (save whoever else does this? DMB?) that put out a soundbound boot of their own shows like PJ does.

I've been a Bruce fan for years and we all sweat it out after every epic show just hoping someone got a nice audience bootleg. Dude's got the grandest archive of any rock'n'roller but they never release a drip.

PJ gives us the best we can ask for (soundbaoard boots)... to nitpick is, well, pretty damned foolish. Don't break the hand that feeds you.

personal caveat: I haven't actually read a thread where anyone bitched about the quality of the boots, but the above would be my response if I had.

Ya know after St. Louis. which sounded a bit better than the first couple of boots and obviously better than 2008, I thought we were headed in the right direction. Nowhere but up. Unfortunately Boston sounds very hollow. Very echoey or tinney and distant. The crowd noise I could care less about. As a musician myself I pay for these bootlegs to hear the band with a little bit of the crowd mixed in. Anyone that says they want more crowd noise should go straight to the audience recordings imo. Anyways, I'm still very happy to have to ability to get these live shows so soon after the shows are over, but in the past we got them almost sooner with better quality. What is going on here? Matt seems to be the only one that is either well mic'ed or just mixed the best, cuz everyone else is drowned out.
A poster named reborn fixer wrote this in the Columbus 2010 bootleg thread which was articulated perfectly. I couldn't have said better myself nor agree completely. Anyways, this is what he said. Later

"I am still extremely happy that we are getting official boots, but I agree that the sound is a tad "off". The different channels blend together more now, into a wall of noise ... I like the 2000 and 2003 boots, where you could distinctly hear Mike, Stone, and Ed's guitars. More headphone friendly. I used to focus on Mike or Stone's channel, depending on the tune and my mood. Now, it takes more effort to hear the details. About the only thing I do appreciate on the 2008/2009 boots is Matt's drum sound, which is pretty solid. I am still buying all the boots, but perhaps the sound could be cleaned up a bit in 2010?

the 2000 boots sound good, but they must be turned up ALOT louder to have the same level of loudness. If i press play on a 2000 boot, then que up a 2010 song after, its going to explode the speakers!

And im not condescending... i have a great Panasonic stereo, if you don't believe me try it out yourself. Im just saying people basing their opinion of the boot, and some being bad and or flat, but listening on a laptop or ipod dont have the right to say that.
Oh. and my stereo only cost me 450, and ipods run close to 200 or more depending on which one... so its not about being able to afford it... its just what i got, for Christmas last year.

Yet another reason why PJ is the best band ever. The debates they have caused throughout this Forum are too numerous to count. Obviously a testament to the intensity and commitment from their fans.

However, lets not forget why their fan base exists. It begins and ends with their music. That being said, IMO, the quality of their boots should be based on the quality of the mix of the music, not the crowd noise. How you listen to the boots(through a bad ass Panasonic $400 system or a Altec Lansing computer system with sub or a Ipod ear bud) matters only on what tour your debating.

For example, the 2000, 2005, 2006 and 2009 boots don't matter what you listen to them through. They all sound amazing. Although the volume of the '00 boots are lower, the mix is still excellent.

As for the '03 and '10 boots, a better "system" does improve the quality. You NEED a better system to improve the sound as it doesn't seem to be mixed as well.

The 2008 boots sound like shit no matter what you play them on.

I own the entire catalogue of '00, '05 and '06 boots and most of the '03 and '09 boots. My opinion is based of the multiple Gigs of boots on my hard drive.

I originally wrote this post in response to a different post about the quality being bad, then, they recanted because they were listening on their ipod then listened on a decent radio...

And, my radio doesn't cost 450 a month?!?! it cost me 450 once and its my home theater / blu ray player...

So, im not here to debate people, or be called an elitist... or anything like that. Just trying to say the 2010 boots sound great on a good system, and, i personally think nothing can sound "good" on ipod ear buds... they have no low end and no high end... just flat metallic sound...

That's my opinions on it. I cant wait for MSG boots after hearing Boston because it sounded GREAT TO ME!

i wasn't saying your home theather cost 450 a month. i was making a point that to SOME people on here 450 bucks is alota money. yes you do come off elitist. like your some kinda mr know it all bout sound. people are complaining bout how since 2000 the bootlegs have been above average at best. a bootleg is gonna suck weather you listen to it on your ipod or laptop/computer or a 450 dollar home theater system. i can listen to any 00 bootleg on my ipod and the bands sounds crisp as a they can be where as a 05,06,08,09 boot sounds much different. i'm not knocking basecamp or kufala at all. both companies are very cool and do/did a great job for us pj fans.
