I have to be totally honest, as a fan in Europe, watching these videos is just painful... I winced my way through about 30 seconds then stopped then. To me it's not just the guy you're talking about, but about 95% of the people visible in that video seem unbelievably lethargic for what is, when all is said and done, a hard-rock concert. I know the seats don't help but still. I imagine the adrenaline levels and heartrates of European fans must be about 10x that of your average US fan at shows. I've got to say it... US crowds suck big time.
Totally! Matt should of thrown sticks @ him! The guy looks tired already @ the show? Bored? Please move out of there & let that woman in the blue few seats back up there in front that's jumping & singing.
Poor Ed! Seeing somebody like this right in front of him the whole time! Sad!

Thats what happens when lottery winners make up 40% of the first 10 rows. You never know if the best fans win the lottery tickets. Give me row 1 and I'm not just standing there. Hopefully the ten club reads this. hahahahahahahaha not to mention that all the die hard ten club high seniority people are all in their 40's probably. Also it's hard to do much when there are seats on the floor. Not much space to do what you need to be considered crazy
ok, THAT made me laugh!
i was waaaayyyyy too far away from the front of the stage to see this dude, hell, could barely see the band from my 10c seats. ack.
that said, my husband usually is one of those mellow concert-goers, would probably get the 'statue' descriptor, just how he absorbs/enjoys live music. however, MSG I, ...he was a new man! i've never seen him jump around, dance, pseudo-sing.......what a blast both nights @ MSG were! and i still have the bruises all over my legs from the chairs.

attend any GA show in the US....and tis the same as the euro crowd.
true story.
it's just the nature of the shows. also, there are plenty of people having a blast, it just 'looks' so different when they are spread out, separate by seats, rather than a mass of bodies going nuts at a GA show. and sure, blah blah blah about the GA vs. seated gigs...it is what it is. US crowds do not suck. if you were AT MSG, you'd have seen/heard/felt it. (btw didn't watch the youtube clip, so idk what those particular fans were doing, but whatever...appearances are deceiving, and yea...not all fans are the same.)
irving plaza gig in NYC was JUST as crazy as all the italian shows i attended in 2006. fact.
sorry, i just hate broad-stroke generalizations about most things, b/c it's rarely true.
and definitely not true in this instance. US crowds can be a total blast!
I'm sorry, that's just funny to me. The idea that someone can go to something as energetic as a PJ concert and stay super still the whole thing is hilarious.

I know, it's almost like you have too try really hard NOT to move. Impossible for me. Totally impossible.
Evolution Music Studios presents:
DO THE EVOLUTION - a 20th Anniversary Tribute Celebration
of PEARL JAM - WORLD CAFE LIVE PHILLY JUNE 19th 7pm
Individual goes to pick up 10club tickets at the will call window.
Attendant: "Excuse me sir, do you jump around a lot throughout the show?"
Member: "I love the band, they are the greatest band ever, but I am usually not real animated. I also don't know all the word the every Pearl Jam song ever written"
Attendant: "Well, we were going to give you these great lottery seats, but I guess we'll give them to someone else because you aren't a big enough fan."
Don't pass judgment. It doesn't mean someone isn't having a good time, or appreciates the band or music any less than anyone else.
There's this thing, it's called a sense of humor.
I hear you man, I watched the video, and I see your point. I just think some people on this forum put way to many requirements on being a "real fan." Not saying you are one of these people though. As you said to someone else on this thread, don't take it personal.
I am just waiting to have someone start a thread saying that lottery winners have to pass a pearl jam quiz to be able to earn the right to be up front.

Holy shit, that is weird and hard to watch!! I understand people react different but how the fuck can you just stand there with the insane energy levels that night. And throughout Spin The Black freakin' Circle!!! To each their own, yeah, but come on.... I would look like the energizer bunny on red bull if I landed first row for a show like that. Probably any PJ show for that matter
"He who hears music, feels his solitude peopled at once" R. Browning
Seriously though, if I were Ed, Jeff, Stone or Mike I woulda been wicked creeped out by that dude. Matt probably had no idea behind the kit.

I never pass judgment on others at shows unless they're voicing disappointment, or doing something of that nature. Everyone 'receives' music a different way. At the beginning I would only slightly bob my head. Now I sing along as loudly as I can, bob my head and bounce slightly, and when the energy flows through my body, jump like mad!

ummm...the band are all in their 40s as well.
And are all in shape.
so it is a question of fitness not age?
Both. I am sure that the boys are in better shape and more active than 95% of the crowd.

That's the best explanation I can muster. Beyond that, I have nothing.
