They're supposed to be Pearl Jam....not Pearl Adult Contemporary.
I can understand how some might not like this song. I disagree.
I personally think it's outstanding. Def in my top 5.
"FF, I've heard the droning about the Sawx being the baby dolls. Yeah, I get it, you guys invented baseball and suffered forever. I get it." -JearlPam0925
Stupid mop, I'm open, Bee girl, Sweet Lew, Mankind, Education, U. Don't gimme no lip I'd say these are the ones I really don't like much.
Now when you think about it. Of all the albums, all the B-sides, all the Soundtracks, etc., probably well over 100 songs, if I can only come up with those 8 songs, that is a statement as to how great PJ is for me.
really? U??
they need to start playing that one more...
I don't know why, but I've never really felt "Marker in the Sand." It's just so ... I don't know.
I love "Evacuation!" I listen to that song almost every day.
00: Va Beach, 03: Bristow, 04: Reading, 05: Atlantic City 2x
06: Camden, Washington DC, 08: Va Beach, Washington DC
09: Philly 2+3, 10: Bristow, 11: East Troy PJ20 1+2, 13: Baltimore, Charlottesville
Foxy Mophandlemama, That's Me - I don't even consider this a song though.
Bu$hleaguer - just a little bit TOO on the nose for me. Some great lines, but its barbs are almost too pointed for me. I prefer politics in my songs to be a little more universal and subtle.
Speed of Sound - I'm sorry, but this tune feels a little flaccid to me.
Black, Red, Yellow - not even sure I have the order of the colors right. This song always just seems to float right by me, when I'm listening to Lost Dogs. To be honest, as huge a PJ fan as I am and with how many times I've listened to every album, I have to admit that I couldn't even tell you what this song really sounds like or what the lyrics are.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Because they're not perfect...
Glorified G from Vs. is definitely one of them... if not the worst. I just don't like that whole 'glorified version of a pellet gun' chorus thing in the background, it drives me nuts. Your results may vary, but I'm sure there's some songs you don't like.
While tossing the goofy songs aside(Bugs, Foxy Mop, etc.)...I'd say Low Light, Evacuation, Cropduster, Down(I don't get the love by the band?), and Parachutes. Not a huge fan of Marker in the Sand, either.
I think about this alot actually. Loved every (real) song through Vitalogy (Foxy doesn't count). I know I will catch hell for this, but the first PJ song I had to admit to myself that I did not like is
Around the Bend
Since then it would include:
Can't Keep
Ghost
Cropduster
Parachutes
Unemployable
Well at least some of you are honest.
I personally can't think of one that I don't like. Just some I listen to more than others.
This
"So, you must really love Led Zeppelin. That’s the oldest shirt I’ve ever seen on someone who wasn’t a bum."
"Hey, if God didn’t want me to wear it so much, he wouldn’t have made them rock so hard."
I don't think B sides should be in the discussion. Of album tracks, "Bugs" is in a class of its own. Of album tracks that are meant to be taken seriously, I think "Habit" is the nadir.
Most everything off Binaural. Waaaaaaaaaaay too trippy.
nothing as it seems
On a side note, There are a bunch of songs on the riot act album that i don't like. Just can't think of them because I haven't listened to the album in a long time.
Exactly. Nothing as it Seems is waaaaaaay the hell out there.
I remember someone in the music press writing that any other band could have built an entire career around a song as good as "Nothing As It Seems" yet, when Pearl Jam released it as a single, it was met with yawns. (The point being that Pearl Jam gets taken for granted.)
I think it's a compelling song musically, but the lyrics are a little obtuse. By and large, lyric-writing should be left to Ed. What's funny is that Jeff's lyrical masterpiece, "Other Side," didn't make it onto an album.
Comments
this is insane...lyrics to this song are incredible.
'I know I was born and I know that I'll die...the in-between is mine'
I personally think it's outstanding. Def in my top 5.
lyrically -- fixer
If that's the case, we could call them Pearl Jam Contemporary b/c of other songs.
I love come back too.
least favs: evacuation, mankind, comatose, parachutes, sweet lew, bugs (cant stand it)

and just to quote myself: "Thumbing My Way = Thumbs DOWN."
Around the Bend
Since then it would include:
Can't Keep
Ghost
Cropduster
Parachutes
Unemployable
and one more to take shit about:
Johhny Guitar

Binaural is cool, Evacuation aside. It's Riot Act that doesn't do it for me, with the exception of a few songs.
This
"Hey, if God didn’t want me to wear it so much, he wouldn’t have made them rock so hard."
Crop Duster
