Yeah, I can see that. I'd consider Zeppelin-ish to be the ultimate compliment, so that works for me on this masterpiece of a song, at the end of this masterpiece of an album.

I think a little more 80's Clapton than Zeppelin, IMHO with the piano and the sound of the guitars.

    OH YES IT IS.

OK, then how? B/c it's 7 minutes long?

Neither the solo or chord progression are Page-ish in the slightest. Matt's drumming is a different style from Bonzo. Ed sure as hell don't sound like Bob Plant. Jeff doesn't play anything like JPJ.

IT IS 100% OUT OF THE ACOUSTIC INTRO/ELECTRIC KICK-IN ORIGINALLY PIONEERED IN THE SONG BABE I'M GONNA LEAVE YOU AND MASTERED IN STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN; IT CONTAINS SIMILAR LATE-BREAKING METER SHIFTS AS THOSE SONGS; IT HAS A BASS-DRIVEN BRIDGE LIKE MANY ZEPPELIN SONGS, WHERE THE BASS OF JOHN PAUL JONES RISES TO THE TOP OF THE MIX BRIEFLY TO DELIVER A FEW PUNCHES. I BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE WITH A JIMMY PAGE AVATAR HAS BEEN REVEALED TO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT LED ZEP!
:o:o DO YOU EVEN LISTEN TO LED ZEPPELIN? :?:

Power ballads have the acoustic/electric thing goin and I don't think any of them sound like Zeppelin.

Bass driven bridge in Inside Job?? Where?

IJ is just an open chord strummer that gets progressively heavy and faster.

If you wanna compare some PJ to Zeppelin that's fine, but something like In Hiding is infinitely more Zep-ish than Inside Job.

WE CAN AGREE TO DISAGREE ON IJ.

INTERESTING COMPARISON REGARDING IN HIDING. WHAT ZEP-LIKE SIMILARITIES DO YOU SEE IN THAT SONG? WHAT OTHER PJ SONGS WOULD YOU SAY ARE ZEP-LIKE? I LIKE YOUR OBSERVATIONS THEY MAKE ME THINK. WHICH IS HARD WORK - TO THINK. AT LEAST FOR ME.

I think the way Stone and Mike's guitars work together to make a bigger picture is what reminds me of Zep the most. The arrangement has a few subtle twists too.

I think Ed's influences and the overall change in band dynamic have kinda stripped away the Zeppelinesque features of PJ.

I hear Zeppelin as much in the spirit of what PJ does as much as the actual music.

I think the thing they have most in common is their career progression.
  • A lot of people on this board say their favorite Pearl Jam song to get baked to is Inside Job. Which seems kind of f*ckd up considering that the song is about getting clean and sober. Sort of like saying Give Peace a Chance is a good dog-kicking anthem.
