PJ History - Where does MSG 1 and 2 Rank?

Obviously they've had some "epic" and "historic" shows thru their 20 year history as a band. Where do you think this 2 night run ranks? The 2006 Gorge shows, the three shows in Mansfield in 2003 and the run of Spectrum shows last year come to mind. As many have already written, the energy and emotion of the band and audience during MSG 1 and MSG 2 were off the charts. I'm not sure they topped MSG 1 2003, but together they may have been better than MSG 1 and MSG 2 in 2003.

Looking at the setlists this band just played 67 songs over two days and 61 different songs (and some incredibly deep and rare tracks too). Can't think of another band who would even attempt this, never mind play each version incredibly well. What a band!

These were my first two shows at the Garden and my 28th and 29th shows overall. For me Friday night was on another level, the Gorge 05 was fun with the acoustic preset but these Garden shows had an intensity unmatched. The 2nd show was tremendous from the first note of Corduroy. We traveled all the way from Northern California in hopes of catching this kind of special show and Friday night delivered in a huge way. In the end I've been to 29 and heard pretty much every show ever on bootlegs and Friday night stands up there with any of them. I'd jump on a plane right now and travel 3,000 again if I knew I could catch a show of that caliber. It was a once in a lifetime type show.

msg2 ranks as the best show of the 2010 tour
you really cant compare 98, 03, or 08 to 2010
    each was different yet great.

msg2 this year was better than 08 but not as good as 98, and just as good as 03 IMHO

This is like those "Top 100 songs of the 2000s" or "50 best drummers of ALL TIME" lists that are always being discussed.

There is no concrete ranking ... to say there is, is silly.

These shows, or more specifically, MSG 2 was an amazingly special show ... I think everyone can agree on that.

To go beyond that, to try and put a "ranking" on it, is a fool's errand.

  • Was all 3 Gorge's, 5 MSG's, Hawaii, 10th Anniversary in Vegas, Fonda in LA.... MSG 5/21/10 ranks the best for me with all things considered... Band, Songs, Crowd, Atmosphere all taken into consideration.... #1 for me in my opinion...

Even this is debatable...Boston was right there if not a little better.

I guess thats why ranking is pointless, but still - MSG2 was a great show.

There was a show at this little club in Chicago in 2007 that has to rank somewhere in the top 10. And Philly 4 wasn't even the best Philly show in '09 :D

Philly '05 needs to be on the list. To say that show doesn't rank close to MSG shows is just a biased opinion.

MSG shows all other venues how its done. The energy cant be topped. The Spectrum was great but while people were exxxcited about the boys, you got a whole bunch of big loser guys and trash talking chicks starting fights over sports! wtf! And the gorge wins for scenery. Overall, in MY opinion MSG is the ruler. :D

I would rank MSG II higher than the 4 Phillys.

I would still say Buffalo 2003 is my favorite

Msg 2 2010 ranks as my 3rd favorite out of my 16 shows. Philly 3 and Philly 4 then Msg 2 followed by Wachovia 05 and Philly 1,would be my top 5 shows.

chicago HOB 05 was way better then chicago 07 vic theater. Chicago 07 is in the top 15. Def not better then DC 95 or orpium(sp) 94.

You can't make a show a top 10 just cause of a setlist. If you do that then beacon theater 08 or showbox 02 or easy street 05 or toledo 04 would make the top 10 lol.

    My list of shows is

    ER II '06
    Camden 1 & 2 08
    Washington 08
    MSG 1 & 2 08
    Philly 1, 2, 3, 4 09
    Newark 10
    MSG 1 & 2 10

...Philly 3 & 4, and MSG 2 are in their own league, and at this moment, I'd say MSG 2 was the best show I've been to.

Although my favorite experience was Philly 2, 2nd row Stone side, never thought I'd see the band from there.
