how long should we give BP to stop the leaking oil?

It's already been far too long. They should've addressed this and found a solution as soon as possible. Polluting our water isn't something to take our time on preventing. Why should we leave a huge chunk of our oceans cleanliness in the hands of an oil company? We may be a wise species, but we are quite disrespectful to most of the elements.7/2/06 - Denver, CO

dude ... the exxon valdez spill was the direct result of exxon breaking the law to save money ... it was cheaper for them to have an accident than to put the safety measures that were required by them by law ... not to say they purposefully had an accident - simply that it would have been prevented if they followed the safety regulations they were supposed to have taken ... but instead, they are only interested in $$$ ...
these executives spend millions of dollars spreading lies about climate change all around the world ... they don't care about the environment ...0 -

Alaska Oil Pipeline Shut After Power Outage
The Trans-Alaska Pipeline, owned by BP Plc (BP) and other oil majors, was shut down Tuesday, cutting most supply out of Alaska oilfields, after a power outage caused an oil spill.....don't compete; coexist
what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

MrSmith wrote:right they are motivated by money, and money is literally leaking into the ocean. not to mention the bad press, the boycott threats, the governement threatening to kick them out of the gulf, the fortunes they have to pay to clean everything up, their stock value... Im sure they want it stopped as much as anyone.
you're missing my point ... it's not like i'm saying they WANTED this to happen ... what i'm trying to say is this: their primary focus has been in recuperating the oil that is being spilled (under the guise of a clean up) when in fact they should be spending all their energy plugging the leak ... they make choices about where to spend that money - and when time comes to make decisions - the environment will always be a non-issue ... it's all about oil recovery now ... sure, there is more press now about trying to plug the leak but how long has it been and why wasn't that the first priority to begin with?0 -

the problem is that even the weak laws that currently do exist to regulate this industry are never enforced ... oil companies control the gov't as like in Canada ... how long has it been since valdez and the victims have still not seen a dime because exxon continues to fight it in court ... talk about evil - you ruin people's lives because of greed and now that they are making record profits - they still won't compensate them ...0 -
Today they are trying to plug it with mud and cement. It's called top kill. The oil companies are tied in with drilling inspectors. We probably don't even know how many politicians are tied in with the oil companies. Now it has been uncovered that an inspector for Minerals Management Service, whIch oversees drilling may have been under the influence of crystal meth while working. say WHAT.fuck 'em if they can't take a joke

unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487Is there an estimate of how much has spilled out yet?
I heard somewhere, possibly here, that there are underwater globs that are ten miles long, three miles wide, and 300 feet tall. Now my math is probably fuzzy and very rough but that would be around 500 BILLION gallons of oil??? Each.0 -

It's too bad that they didn't have emergency plans ready for a worst-case scenario. That is what they should be damned for.
i would truly like to see the actual net cost to BP on this ... i refuse to believe there isn't a "money is no object" solution out there ... every decision these fuckers make is based on $$$ ... they don't care about the environment nor the people ... history has proven that time and time again ...
I agree. The situation is sickening.0 -
