I don't think that is out of the ordinary. The shorter the club the easier it is to hit. I shouldn't carry a driver but I do and hit it too often, because when I hit it well, which is a few times a round, it is glorious.

I'm the exact same way. I haven't used a driver on a course in 2-3 years....it's usually a complete fucking disaster.

I wish I didn't but I can't help myself. I need to just leave it at home. I have a new 3 wood that I am a bit inconsistent but pretty comfortable with. I need to just sit on the range with that club and figure it out. I shortened my swing with my driver though and when I can hit it right, I am dead straight about 280 with a lowish ball flight which is not ideal but I'm not complaining. I usually get a couple of them a round, but when I don't it is a penalty or in another fairway.

Harmon said. “I don’t think he needs a swing coach. If I were advising Tiger I’d tell him, ‘You’re the greatest player that ever lived, just go to the range and hit shots.’”

exactly! stop fucking around with your swing and just go out and play golf

Yeah, I pretty much just need to sit at the range for a few hours and get it figured out. I never hit it right and usually end up in another fairway or hit a fucking ground ball up the middle which is why I haven't even bothered with it lately....drives me nuts.

Yeah, Haney and Azinger both basically said the same thing too. Azinger said he could fix him in 10 minutes.

i bought this "mini driver" (i'm assuming a play on words) by taylormade the other day. a hybrid between a driver and a 3 wood. bigger loft and bigger club head. i feel like it is easier to hit. once i am more comfortable at the tee, i'm pretty sure i will be able to handle it pretty well. we'll see.

He qualified on points, which tells you how pathetic the US team is this year. We don't have a chance.

Seriously though, if tiger pulled a I am out of it and don't want to play, the world would fucking flip upside down. What a jackass, shooter mcgav...I mean Phil is

Wouldn't it make more sense to keep playing and try to get his shit figured out if he is trying to "get ready" for the Ryder Cup??? And yeah, I could only imagine the reaction if Tiger pulled something like this....Phil always gets a free pass...

Hasn't Phil always said he likes to play to figure it out when he's struggling?

Rory always seems to hit into strange places. 2 years ago at the PGA I think, he hit into a tree and it stuck in there.

Played in Destin, FL last week at Kelly Plantation. Man, I need to move to Florida. Fantastic course if you're ever in the area

Driver problems: Hey guys, I see a lot of people here having trouble with the driver. I'm no pro, I play off 15, but I've been working at a golf course/driving range this past summer and the guys I work with are unreal. I was having major driver issues as well and I wasn't even taking it out of the bag. Irons, fine...driver, crap. I was telling this to one of the assistant pros and he said he'd have a look at my swing. Within 5 minutes I was loving the driver. This is what he told me: 'Slow down, let the back swing happen.' He went on to tell me that so many high handicappers he works with rush the driver, making a super short backswing which inevitably slices the ball a mile right or they overcompensate and duck hook it 30 yds left.
Without knowing, because of the fear of the driver, I wasn't turning my shoulders and making about half a turn on the backswing as compared to my irons. Give it a try, it really helped me. As he said, if you can hit a 5 iron there is no reason you can't hit a driver.

thank you for this. definitely feel like i'm rushing my swing. and my pro said the same thing about being able to hit my 3 iron and iron's well, should be able to hit the driver....slow down, let it happen.....will give it a try

Yes, that is a good tip. Also keep your lower body quiet during the back swing. A lot of people move their lower body a lot and never realize it. You shouldn't be turning your hips much, but instead turning your upper body around your spine. A lot of people sway backwards during the back swing of a driver trying to create power. You'll never get much power if you sway. Your hips will turn naturally, but too much usually causes a sway or the reverse pivot. A good drill is to put the back of a chair almost right up against your right hip(or left hip if you're a lefty), maybe 2 finger widths away. try taking a practice swing with the chair there(you may not be able to hold a club, so just pretend you've got a club in your hand). If your hip hits the chair, you're swaying. If it moves the opposite way of the chair, you've got a reverse pivot. Your hips should pretty much stay where they're at and only turn slightly. It will help you to focus on your shoulder turn more. If you do it right, you should feel pressure in your inside right thigh. From there, you kinda push towards the target with your hips and let your hands fall (think of you holding a rope or chain and you're pulling it downwards). It'll take some work, but should help you focus on that shoulder turn and keeping the lower body still.

  • My father and I play for our league championship on Monday. The change from a 9-degree driver to a 10.5-degree driver has been huge for me. I always went with the 9-degree on the basis that the lower the degree of loft, the farther it goes. But that club wasn't very forgiving. When I hit it perfectly, it went far and had a wonderful "ping" sound to it that might fool an onlooker into thinking I knew what I was doing out there. But when I didn't hit perfectly, I was "that guy" wandering through your fairway asking if you've seen a ball come through here. But with this 10.5-degree driver, every shot has been good, even on occasions when I know I didn't hit it perfectly, Once I even caught some of the ground on my swing and still hit it just 20 yards shorter than I did on a perfect swing the previous hole. So yeah....10.5, bro.
