This thread should now be edited" how wrong was i" this show was more than epic i would say monumental ...
LOL i think i agreed w this thread being at every MSG show & before this last 1 , WOW yep this thread should now be edited , last night was wayyy beyond epic, it was magical and will prob never be duplicated again
When you're living in the moment like the last two nights, sure, it seems epic. Night one was far better IMO and the same shit was said after Philly. Every show is the best show ever. Just another good show in the long list of them... they'll keep coming, I know that much. So, no, I'm not retracting my statement. Neither show was "epic" imo. That's just my opinion though, so... you've got yours, I've got mine and too fuckin bad!

Its crazy how many of your posts are anti-MSG. It's kinda crazy actually.
Were you even at the shows to be able to judge just how good they were?
maybe all the 10 c posers got the 10c seats at msg, while the low numbers got sold out, i loved this show. everyone complainin dont like this dont like that, if you dont like a bunch of pj songs you not really a gfan, what you want a greatest hits show everynight/ thats boring,

I consider all pearl jam shows I have had the fortune of seeing epic.... then again I have a life outside of pearl jam and don't criticize every setlist for the amount of rarely played songs. Lets remember, there is a reason these songs were left off the albums they were originaly to be on.... It was because the band didn't feel that they made the cut. It doesn't make anyone any more of a fan for liking said songs, or a better concert for having heard them at a show. Someone said a little while ago on these boards that they were getting tired of the band playing " Just Breathe" at every show..... Well guess what... STOP GOING THEN, the band isn't there there to cater to your rarity fetish numbnuts. Enjoy each show for what it is, a great individual personal experience... No show is better or worse than the next unless the band is swaping out members between cities without us knowing...... So in short... Get over yourselves.

Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight

Ive been to 16 shows since 2003 and can say the gorge night 1 2006 was close to epic but the only ones i can say were epic without question was Philly 3 and 4 and MSG 2 2010.
I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you
Sha la la la i'm in love with a jersey girl
I love you forever and forever

I was at every MSG, Philly 4, Mansfield 3 in '03 and about 10 other shows over the years.
This may have been the best of all of them. The first set was perfectly constructed, and I kept thinking that the sequence of the songs they played, in the order they played them, made me get into each song just a little more in the main set. For instance, the Present Tense > Not For You/Modern Girl was just an awesome back to back selection. Same with Push Me Pull Me > Rats, and basically every song prior to Breath. All of the new songs the other night sounded incredible and were completely infused with energy from the crowd belting out the choruses (this pretty much goes for every song). I felt Breath, Nothingman, Grievance, and Why Go really stood out on their own in incredible ways with the band/crowd interaction.
Then there were the encores. The first one was fun for the rarities and then pulling into some better known songs that brought the house down. But I will never ever forget that second encore. You can't point to any one song, but that was really the most emotional I have ever seen both a band and a crowd at the same time. Sitting basically opposite the celebrity seats (same section on Mike's side instead of Stone), it really looked like Eddie Vedder had a hard time keeping it together first when he sang Wasted Reprise, and way more so when the crowd serenaded him with the loudest ovation, by a very very large margin, that I have ever heard that lasted 30 seconds to a minute no music, no choreography, just pure emotion showering on him. It was louder than any crowd, including well over 100 other shows I have seen from many many bands, and including any sporting event, including playoff games. Deafening would be a tremendous understatement. And it never calmed down from there. Song after song, be it a classic Pearl Jam song or a cover, the place was in a different universe. Like beckoning the end of the world for 30 straight minutes, with the band performing to near perfection. There wasn't a sense of grounding the rest of the night, until Yellow Ledbetter, which brought it all home.
If that's not epic, I don't know what is. If your gripe is that this happened in New York, that's your problem, not the band's and certainly not the lucky ones who wree there Friday night.

So can you please just answer the :?: were you present at any of the MSG SHOWS we need to know :?: ..
MSG 2 was great, great crowd, great songs, great atmosphere
slight nod to the spectrum 10/30 because it had better sound
truthfully, the garden sound system is subpar
THANK YOU! Someone who has the show in perspective. Plus you're right on about the sound difference. Though i think Spectrum 10/30/2009 setlist was way better, but that just might be me?>

oh, sorry, i have a life i had to attend to. yes i was there i haven;t had a chance to stroke out to adding it to my list of shows yet. maybe i'll have 90 seconds again tomorrow. having a new baby takes a few minutes a day.
actually, the show my stout dedication to sizzling "pow in your face" types, i've taken the necessary steps to show how cool i am because i went to msg again... and again, yawn. night 1 kicked the fuck out of night 2. not sure what the jacking off on night 2 is all about, but to each their own.
now back to changing diapers.

in my opinion when comparing shows by setlist, it is always going to be subjective. the only recent show that could unarguably be called "epic" would be philly 4 based on the number of songs and how long they played for. (with ed even saying they will never play that long again.) philly 3 probably was a better show, maybe even msg 1/2 this year, but in terms of an EPIC show (rather then a great show) i would say its a list that includes philly 4, mansfield/college park 03, and other totally unique shows
PJ: Hartford 6/27/08 Mansfield 6/30/08 Philly 3 Oct. 30 2009
Philly 4 Oct. 31 2009 Hartford May 2010 Boston May 2010 MSG 1 May 2010
EV: Albany 1 and 2 June 2009 Providence June 15 2011 Hartford June 18 2011
MSG shows are naturally great, and naturally overrated.
If you look at DET '03 vs MSG '03, you'd have more than a legit argument as to which was the better set of shows. And they left some in the tank at Det 2, thanks to the awful curfew of Pine Knob.
you can't compare set lists to choose a better show.
i was at nights 1 and 2 msg. and made night 4 philly. i thought the sound was better at the garden. guess that's just me.
night 2 msg is my favorite show...so what?
i was also 3rd row for msg1 then night 2 i was in the very back of the floor....still enjoyed night 2 better.

Well said my friend, you nailed it. I like how you said the place was in a different universe, you're totally right. I was sitting behind the stage and it was so f*cking incredible seeing the entire crowd clap along in unison at the end of Black. I mean, i've never felt anything like what I felt that night and nobody can really understand unless they were there. In the MSG 2 review thread some guy said it best, "When I die, I hope Heaven is getting to go to MSG 2 every night for the rest of eternity" I think that sums it up pretty nicely. Ha!
