Funny, I "see" all of the sets being very similar. And by similar I mean, very well rounded shows, high energy at some points & laid back at other points, some old songs, some new songs, some "popular' or "hit" songs, and some lesser played songs or rarities.

However, the band manages to keep each show as great as any PJ show can be and makes each show unique in it's own way.

count the songs, and count the rarities. i was at three of the midwest shows, and they were all great sets. but this is clearly the best so far.

The thing is that the "rarities" are some of their best material. I'd take Smile or Sad over Alive and Even Flow any day of the week! Am I alone here?

    YOU are not alone!! :)

Can't wait for good ole Newark tomorrow and MSG on Friday....

    ...cheers

I agree. Im going to the next three shows, so for selfish reasons, i hope they save a few gems for MSG and Newark, but i think Boston is going to be amazing. Everything is in place for a stellar show: Boston is a great PJ city with a long history of awesome shows; the band had a day of rest; i think their intent was to play two Boston shows and they may try to make up for that lost show tonight!

I'm thinking the same thing: I think BOSTON is going to be AMAZING too. Especially since that 2nd show wasn't added. They may pull out some SHIT tonight. PUSH ME, PULL ME??

I'll go with LONG ROAD as the opener.

I don't know. I think Alive and Even Flow are well-known and wildly popular for a reason. I personally think Alive is just about flawless. I also think Sad and Undone are amazing songs, albeit very different songs than Alive and Even Flow. I suspect Sad and Undone could have fared very well if they had been publicized, but here we are.

I guess the fact that I saw 3 awesome shows on this tour doesnt make me feel like I was missing a lot tonight. I mean, this set list was great, but I wouldnt trade in my three shows for tonights. All their shows are great, and they are all different, and thats what makes this band so special. There are few if any bands out there that could pull off a set like this at just a normal show on a Monday night.
words seem so out of place.

i cannot imagine if the guys tour more that 3 weeks... would be insane...

I think it's actually a really great idea that they're only touring 3 weeks at a time. It lends itself to making each show special and memorable. Even with their catalogue, I don't think you'd see this much variation night in and night out on a huge 3 month, 50 gig tour.
While it means less shows for us, I think they've earned it. Haven't seen any shows this leg, but it seems like they're going out and earning it every night with incredible sets.
