Cremated - my ashes scattered out West somewhere. Near an ocean would be nice .

Cremated.....and then when I get put in that little box with my little plaque, I want all my pets' ashes put in there with me. Then when my bf dies, his ashes are going in the same box too.

At our local cemetary there's a woodland area, think I'd quite like to go in there in a wicker/cardboard coffin.

I don't think that's legal here in the States. My dad looked into it because he wanted to build his own casket, but he ran into a lot of red tape. Apparently you can build you own, but the funeral home (or mortician) has to approve it. And because they are normally the ones making commissions on selling caskets, they don't approve them (at least in Michigan).
So dad decided he wants to donate his body to science. I used to think it was creepy and weird, but now, I'm kind of leaning toward that too.

When you're buried here in the U.S., rest assured that you are definitely dead. Your body is drained of blood, your friends and family get to stand around you for hours during visitation touching your cold, lifeless skin. I would be unconcerned about being buried alive.

I'm surprised we still have enough real estate to live on with all the billions of people put in the ground. Burial is a waste of space. I say that with a parent in the ground. I would have been better served shoving $8000 up my ass.

i have pretty specific, but basic plans for my end day - and ive told my family if any of it is broken, i'll haunt them for the rest of their days ;)

burial is morbid to me - staying in a box in the ground going all gunky, surrounded by acres of other dead people ... eerrg, it's a huge rip off.
I want whatever is donatable to go, then to be put in the pine/cardboard box that a regular coffin was packed in - paying for good wood to be burnt is another rip off; then put in the furnace; then i want my ashes planted with a new tree (prob a golden ash or suchlike, and thats not being sarcastic - they look so pretty in autumn loosing their leaves, then they grow back in summer all strong & green - its a cycle, like life.) My family or whoever can visit that tree just as easily as a gravesite, and im betting it'll be a lot less depressing & morbid.

We are doing that exact same thing with our pets and us. We had 3 scottie dogs, sadly only one left now but we have our babies here with us till we are all ready for the box. Oh what a lovely thread

funny, all us dog owners have similar ideas. i've promised mr. dream to mix up his ashes with all our dogs and kitty before tossing out to sea. as of right now, we already have 2 dogs and a kitty. :( all earlier pets was before the option of individual pet cremation was available.

and you bet, plain pine box will do me just fine. so much surrounding death is so wasteful imo.....if i'm gone, i'm gone. sure, be respectful, but yea, no need to spend mega-bucks to do so!

my gf took a course in conducting in-home funerals ... so, people can be in their homes when they die ... part of it was learning how to build a coffin! ... ;)
