samjam wrote:Hey! I'm Samantha (but call me Sam) from New York, and I'm a 17 year old senior in high school (soon to be freshman in college which scares/excites me!).
I've always had a love for music-- my dad brought me up on The Who, Hendrix, The Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, etc-- but I've never had a band affect me nearly as much and as deeply as Pearl Jam has.
Sometimes I wish that I could have been a teenager in the early '90s instead of a baby/little kid, but really, Pearl Jam came at the perfect time for me, which happened to be May of 2008. I was 15 at the time, going through some big changes with friends, and I think really starting to find out who and I and who I wanted to become.
Anyway, May 2008: I heard a little bit of Jeremy on some TV program and everything about the song literally stopped me in my tracks-- it grabbed my attention and totally captivated me. I immediately looked up the song and fell in love with it. Then I got Ten, started to explore more, and the rest is history!!
It may sound corny to others, but you all understand: Pearl Jam has really changed my life with their music. When a song can help you express yourself and your feelings in ways that you maybe can't on your own, it's an amazing thing. And when a song can help you better understand yourself, it's so completely powerful. The feeling I get when I listen to Given to Fly, or Leash, or Present Tense--or any song-- it's just the most awesome thing!!
MSG I & II will be my first PJ shows and I couldn't be more excited, thrilled, anxious, happy, etcetc!!!! I'm just gonna soak it all in and rock out hard! I know it will be the experience of a lifetime and that I'll never forget it!!
This. Band. Rocks.Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...0 -
Hello, my name is Ryan and I really dig Pearl Jam. I'm 36 and live in Seattle.
I grew up in Encinitas, CA playing soccer with Ed's stepbrother Mike. I went to San Dieguito High, same as Mike and Ed. One day back in 1991, during P.E. class Mike told us that his brother was in a band that was getting a lot of notoriety and were getting ready to release their first album. He passed his Walkman around and we listened to some tracks that Ed had sent Mike. We were impressed but didn't think too much of it at the time, until Ten was released. We were obviously biased but loved supporting Mike and Ed, the local boy gone big.
On May 10, 1992 (wow, makes me feel old) a group of friends and I went down to Tijuana to finally go see them play for the first time. We were able to get some tickets to the show, though not all of us. Not long before the show started Ed came out and asked how many of us needed tixs. He went back inside for a few minutes and came back out and handed all of us who were empty handed passes to get into the show...I will never forget that moment for as long as I live. That night, almost 18 years ago to the day, I saw WHY Pearl Jam would become my favorite band. It's safe to say that 99.9% of you know the exact feeling I am talking about.
I have had so many great memories and experiences over the years having the privilege of seeing this amazing band many times. On 5/21 I will celebrate my 75th show at MSG! I am proud of PJ, one of the few bands who have withstood the test of time, staying together, putting out great music, killer shows, and showing tremendous compassion for our earth and humanity.0 -
Gary, 37 and would you believe it but I fucking adore Pearl Jam! I was into my sisters music from about 8 years old (Rush, Sabbath, Scorpions, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Deep Purple etc..) and I started going to gigs starting with AC/DC in 86 and have seen dozens since with the highlight so far being Tom Waits in Amsterdam in 04 but so far I've never been to a Pearl Jam gig!! I reintroduced myself to the forums after a 3 year abscence with a post titled 40 year old virgin or something like that trying to get some encouragement to actually go to one on this tour before I reach 40 and still haven't seen one. Six months later I'm waiting as patiently as I can for me and my very tolerant (pregnant) partner to see the guys in Dublin, Belfast and London next month then taking her back home and going solo to Berlin for the most anticipated gig of my life. I try my best to listen to other music but when you have 150+ official boots and almost every show downloaded you're going to listen to a lot of PJ and I just can't help it! First song I heard was Alive on MTV. Favourite album is Vitalogy. Favourite song is Sometimes. I believe PJ are one of the alltime greats and will be more recognised as such globally in another 5 years. Great band, great fans, and a great thread! Can't wait to meet many of you on tour next month and see if the ones I've been in contact with so far really are crazy. Peace and love to you all!Like a book among the many on a shelf...

Hi I'm Liz I'm 46 and I really dig PJ...how much I appreciate this band is pretty much overshadowed at this moment by how psyched I am for the shows at Hartford and Newark I'm going to sooooon! My little sister really turned the key for me about Pearl Jam. I had listened to Pearl Jam on the radio, whatever, in the early 90's, I think I had Ten back in the day, but she sent me a mix tape (remember cassettes?) in 1995 when I was pregnant with my son, and it had Elderly Woman on it, and I popped it in while I was driving somewhere and I almost went off the road, I was so blown away. I felt like it was about my baby-to-be, that he was coming back to me from somewhere...hard to describe, but that familiar face, you know? ..anyway, from that moment I was hooked, and through the next few years with many tough times Pearl Jam was a lifeline, mostly listening in the car, turned up loud, singing along. No Code came out, and it got my former deadhead touring buddies into PJ as I was trying to figure out who I was, even a stop sign had a part so guess I was OK. Yield, well, what that was about was dancing, stomping in my living room, while I waited for my divorce to go through, I was, I was a furry thing and i was not trying to make a difference. I saw them the first time in Hartford in '98, an interesting experience w/police, etc...I joined 10c and then let it lapse (damn!) and then joined again. When the avocado album came out, I had the chance to travel to the middle east, and I listened to Marker and Army Reserve as we were flying along the Iran/Iraq border. PJ is part of my life dealing with the challenges of today, including raising my now teen aged children - who listen to Horse the Band and Lil Wayne and not so much PJ - it is rare when there is nothing wrong. My husband is not yet a full fledged fan but the fact that he'll be going to his 4th and 5th shows this spring makes me get all mushy with how great he is. The fact that when I put my ipod on shuffle its almost all PJ made me realize I'm kinda hooked and perhaps need to branch out a bit...just after I put the Philly boots in...See you in Hartford and Newark, can't wait for that Alive dedication! Love to all of you xoxo pj maine mom0
