Hello, my name is Jason and I really dig Pearl Jam
I am 33 and live in Vermont - my wife's name is Marlie and we love music

For fun I try and make Pearl Jam music videos - when I was real young I remember Eddie Vedder saying something like they would always make "live" music videos because the idea of Jeff floating on a bubble playing his bass was absurd and that always stuck with me.

I did not like EvenFlow when it came on MTV back in the day - Alive wasn't as big a video so I missed that one first time around. Jeremy caught me just like everyone else and I bought the cassette tape - holy shit remember the 1st time, the very 1st time you heard Black?!?!?! That shit blew my mind. I was a solid fan until No Code was released, I was just too young to get it. (too young for me not necessarily too young for anyone else).
Years later I bought the CD single for Given To Fly. It did not catch me. A year or two later I saw at Wal-Mart Live On Two Legs I bought that one and it all started all over again - with intensity. Live On Two Legs made be go back and listen to Ten,Vs,Vitology,NoCode and Yeild ( I think I bought Yield before NoCode) and well LO2L when Given To Fly played live I knew I was a fool and had missed out on something. 2000 Touring Band DVD came then all those official bootlegs - well it has been a great journey ever since.

Pearl Jam hasn't saved my life because of some great tragedy or moment I was going through but has always been the soundtrack to both the good moments and the bad. I remember those latter teenage years well and if it was not for music, especially this great music we all love I know I would not have made it through it so well.

My 13 year old step daughter loves music - we have alot of over laps and alot of I do and she don't likes and vise versa - but we can always chat about Pearl Jam - her first concert was in Philly last year night 2 - it was great to see it all through her.

Thanks Pearl Jam - you guys really do fuckin rock!!

    My name is Marsha.

My PJ story begins at the beginning. When Ten came out, I first heard Black at a dive bar here in Philly and loved it. I was and still am a HUGE Who and Pete Townshend fan and primarily listened to only them at home. Then I got Ten and started listening to it incessantly and even mentioned to a friend that I felt like I was cheating on the Who having put them aside for the time being.

One day she called me and said, you don’t have to feel guilty about enjoying this new stuff any more. And she said, Eddie Vedder is just a big a fan of Pete Townshend as you are.

And I said, who’s Eddie Vedder?

Obviously I was listening to Ten but not really paying much attention to the band performing.

And over 40 shows later, the passion for this band is still there. I surpassed my Who shows (18) a long time ago, but that's only because they don't tour like PJ. Trust me, if they did, my Who shows would right up there in the PJ numbers.

That was a great week, wasn't it? Every time I go by the hotel we stayed at in town (right across from where PJ and the damn Yankees were staying), it puts a huge smile on my face. Except for the Yankee part. :x

When did you move to Vermont?

Excellent post Jason! I am Jim, from Boston Ma... 30 years old....

I was the same way as you in the fact that I really identified with the band through 10, Vs and Vitalogy... I was one of the fans that "left" after that! It was around the time Riot Act came out... I remember it like it was yesterday. I was attending a community college, it was the weekend, I was hanging with friends, I drank a few to many beers, went home and went to sleep. When I woke up I had this strange urge to go and buy everything Pearl Jam I had "missed out" on. I went to CD Spins on Newbury St in Boston I picked up Lo2L, Yield, Binaural, Riot Act, a few cd singles, Lost Dogs everything under the sun I could find used!

I immersed myself back in the band... lsitening to them non stop! None of my friends "got it"! To them I was weird and the outsdier... I just figured their loss! In '04 I joined the 10C(one of the best moves I ever made!) My good friend Jenn took me to my first show...Boston 1 9/28/04 (VFC warm up.) Holy moher of God, WHAT A SHOW!!! This coming Monday will be my 18th show! I've traveled near and far to see the band. Longest trip was Montreal 05. I collect as many posters, vinyl, dvd, boots etc as I can! I have a few PJ tattoos... it CAN get CRAZY at times!!! But nothing and I mean NOTHING can match the feeling you get when you see them with 20,000 all singing along in unison.... the friendships and memories I've made will last a LIFETIME! Pearl Jam has been there for me through the highs and lows in my life... I always feel like there's a perfect song for every occassion!!

Sorry for the long post... CHEERS everyone.... ENJOY YOUR SHOWS!!! Peace love and PEARL JAM! - Jim

Yeah Jim I know exactly what you are saying
I now have many many bootlegs a few posters but all the vinyl - no Benny though (sigh)
My first PJ concert was Bonnaroo in 2008, my brother and I went from VT to Tennessee instead of me having a bachelor party for my wedding that fall in September.
I of course have all the DVD's and spend many many many sundays at home with the family spinning records and just letting the DVD's play

    Thanks for sharing folks

    So... what's your name?
I so love your story! and how PJ has brought you closer to those you love and that they are apart of the good and bad in your life, so very true.

My name is Pandora, I am 54 and have loved Pearl Jam since seeing the Jeremy video in bed very late one night in 92 next to my sleeping husband. Those first years of Pearl Jam I needed them and the music to survive, deep in depression, I needed something to hold on to. I found the music not only a release for the anger and disappointment but it helped me to feel and not shut down. Soon I was able to also find joy in the music and in my life.
I have loved each album released feeling the uncanniness of finding myself, my thoughts, my life in the lyrics. This a bond, that is hard to explain but to say I feel, is spiritual.
To this day Pearl Jam is guiding my life. From being here on this forum, to meeting new friends on the wonderful journeys, to sharing my love of the music with my children and husband. This is my life and I am spending it with Pearl Jam!
    and both really rock!
  • what's up my dude?!! your MSG shows are coming up next week...i know you must feel like i do waiting for Hartford & Boston....I went to the Buffalo show with a friend and was there for Fatal...so that was pretty sweet!...anyway...just stopped in your thread to say hi and i hope you & the wife have a blast in NY!! 8-)

Hello, my name is g$... and I really dig pearl jam.
Started when I heard VS. album. My friends big sis drove us to high school and played it everyday. I was hooked. Went back and discovered TEN and it was all over for me. Have loved every album since. Yield and Binaural have had a dramatic impact on my life. In 2006 I was 3 years removed from undergrad, sitting in Cleveland with a dead end job, not using my degree (production) and pretty miserable. Avocado came out and I was so motivated by the lyrics of Life Wasted that I truly changed my life around. Moved to Chicago, put myself through graduate school, started my own production company in Chicago and have been working in the music industry for 3 great years now. I credit a lot of this to PJ's inspiration.
I just attended my 24th show in Cleveland this past Sunday. Light Years makes me cry, as does Long Road. I love Evacuation. My favorite song off Ten is Oceans. My all time favorite songs are Faithfull and Can't Keep. I admit to having a man crush on Eddie and in 2003 a friend and I followed the Riot Act tour for 13 shows, the 3 in Boston were the greatest things I've ever experienced in my life.
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...

I'm Chris (CJ or now "Hoff" :) )

I'm 34 originally from NY, and now in VA.

In 1990 or 1991 I remember riding my dirtbike with my flannel I had for years, and long hair going, and someone said on that trail "you look like Eddie Vedder". "Who?" I said. haha...

When the studio version of Alive came out I didn't like it. It sounded too pretty (overproduction of the album). Wasn't a fan until I heard the live version of Alive and listened to Ten in its entirety. Immediately hooked, and would comb the indie record stores for $50 bootlegs. As a drummer, at that time of about 7 years, I loved their live stuff so much more than their album Ten. (the difference a drummer can make is huge!)

When VS was released, I couldn't believe how incredible of an album it was. I think I even wrote a paper about it in college. Every song from front to back was insanely good. Not one song to skip. This album captured their live energy - finally! Vitalogy also became a favorite, but included more experimental songs too.

No Code was a bit of a change. When I heard that they let go of the drummer I had enjoyed for so many years, I have to admit I was sad. The live songs were much different and No Code took some listening to get used to. It was a complete 180 degree change. But it turns out some of the music on that is the most heartfelt. A launch into a simpler style. While I didn't enjoy Jack's versions of a number of the early songs, Jack had a unique sound that PJ utilized on the music they wrote with him, and those sounded wonderful.

...I could make a lot of notes for the following albums and years, but I'm so glad to have a new PJ album and tour to look forward to every few years. I think these spring shows will get me to about my 25th show.

I look forward to one day to bring one of my nieces to a PJ show. When my oldest niece was 6 she fell in love with Comatose, and she still asks for that when I come over. By the time she's 10 or 12, I'll have gotten her hooked on the rest of the catalog that she can sing along during a show. So, PJ keep touring for at least another 20 years! :)

My name is Aaron. I'm 27 from KY.
    .
My love for Pearl Jam came when I first heard TEN....coincidentally I was 10....and at the time thought "this album was made for me!" I will never forget the first time I heard it.
Growing up my Dad was always my best friend, Mom was definitely awesome too. I grew up listening to them spinning records, in the mornings before school to the nights before dinner. My family was always a music loving family and a big sports loving family as well. In the Summer of 1991 I was in a Little League all regions tournament. On the way to the big tourny Dad stopped by the record store and bought TEN. As soon as I heard the opening riff to Once I was hooked. I didn't want to get out of the car and play baseball, I wanted to set there and play the CD over and over again. I had 3 games that day and in between everyone of them I did just that...I sat in the car and listened to TEN.
As I got older my love for Pearl Jam never died, but growing up in a little hick town in Kentucky was difficult. absolutely NO ONE liked Pearl Jam. I would write papers on how much their music has made an impact on my life through school, and all I would get is "who is Pearl Jam" ? The girls I would date would always listen to whatever was on the radio at the time, it got so bad that the first question I would ask a girl was "do you like Pearl Jam"? If the Answer was a negative one....then I would not date them. That is how much I love them!
I never knew about the fan club until my first show in 2000. Unfortunately I didn't get to join until 2003.
I have been to 5 shows (wish it was more like 55) with the latest being in St. Louis this tour.
All were AMAZING but none will ever be as special as my first 2 shows with Dad, something I will cherish forever.
After my parents passed away PJ has grown even more in my heart. I often fight tears when I listen to them and it never fails when I see them walk out onstage and play the first song of the set, the tears I try so hard to choke back start to fall.

She's now 8 years old, and when I drive her somewhere she asks "do you have 'feel it risin' in the car?"

...yeah, my nieces are awesome! They scream my name when I drive by, so there's no understating how cool that feels. :)

My name is Julie and I am 28 from Ont, Canada and I really dig Pearl Jam.

I started listening to PJ back in 94 when I was 12 years old. My brother introduced them to me. I want to thank PJ for bringing my brother and I closer (we have never been close our whole lives until about a year ago thanks to the best band in the world). We never realized how much we had in common until I finally went to my first show last August and I couldn't stop talking to him about it. We share the same love for the band and hopefully one day we'll see them together front row (a girl can dream right?).

I'll admit i've alway's had a love for PJ since the beginning but never actually became obsessed until the first time I seen them live. I just seen them for the 2nd time in Buffalo and all I can say is WOW. After that show it's safe to say that now my husband is almost as obsessed as I am and he never gets jelous when I talk about how much I love Eddie :D

What a nice story Aaron, and so nice that you have the memory of those two shows with your dad.

It’s nice to see such a young man appreciate his parents so much.

One of life’s biggest tragedies is that we often don’t appreciate the good ones in our lives soon enough.

Apparently, you always have, and that's sweet.

Family was always and will always be #1 in my life.
Hopefully one of these days I will be fortunate enough to start a family of my own.

Hey! I'm Samantha (but call me Sam) from New York, and I'm a 17 year old senior in high school (soon to be freshman in college which scares/excites me!).

I've always had a love for music-- my dad brought me up on The Who, Hendrix, The Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, etc-- but I've never had a band affect me nearly as much and as deeply as Pearl Jam has.

Sometimes I wish that I could have been a teenager in the early '90s instead of a baby/little kid, but really, Pearl Jam came at the perfect time for me, which happened to be May of 2008. I was 15 at the time, going through some big changes with friends, and I think really starting to find out who and I and who I wanted to become.

Anyway, May 2008: I heard a little bit of Jeremy on some TV program and everything about the song literally stopped me in my tracks-- it grabbed my attention and totally captivated me. I immediately looked up the song and fell in love with it. Then I got Ten, started to explore more, and the rest is history!!

It may sound corny to others, but you all understand: Pearl Jam has really changed my life with their music. When a song can help you express yourself and your feelings in ways that you maybe can't on your own, it's an amazing thing. And when a song can help you better understand yourself, it's so completely powerful. The feeling I get when I listen to Given to Fly, or Leash, or Present Tense--or any song-- it's just the most awesome thing!!

MSG I & II will be my first PJ shows and I couldn't be more excited, thrilled, anxious, happy, etcetc!!!! I'm just gonna soak it all in and rock out hard! I know it will be the experience of a lifetime and that I'll never forget it!!

    This. Band. Rocks.

Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...
  • Hello, my name is Ryan and I really dig Pearl Jam. I'm 36 and live in Seattle.

I grew up in Encinitas, CA playing soccer with Ed's stepbrother Mike. I went to San Dieguito High, same as Mike and Ed. One day back in 1991, during P.E. class Mike told us that his brother was in a band that was getting a lot of notoriety and were getting ready to release their first album. He passed his Walkman around and we listened to some tracks that Ed had sent Mike. We were impressed but didn't think too much of it at the time, until Ten was released. We were obviously biased but loved supporting Mike and Ed, the local boy gone big.

On May 10, 1992 (wow, makes me feel old) a group of friends and I went down to Tijuana to finally go see them play for the first time. We were able to get some tickets to the show, though not all of us. Not long before the show started Ed came out and asked how many of us needed tixs. He went back inside for a few minutes and came back out and handed all of us who were empty handed passes to get into the show...I will never forget that moment for as long as I live. That night, almost 18 years ago to the day, I saw WHY Pearl Jam would become my favorite band. It's safe to say that 99.9% of you know the exact feeling I am talking about.

I have had so many great memories and experiences over the years having the privilege of seeing this amazing band many times. On 5/21 I will celebrate my 75th show at MSG! I am proud of PJ, one of the few bands who have withstood the test of time, staying together, putting out great music, killer shows, and showing tremendous compassion for our earth and humanity.

Gary, 37 and would you believe it but I fucking adore Pearl Jam! I was into my sisters music from about 8 years old (Rush, Sabbath, Scorpions, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Deep Purple etc..) and I started going to gigs starting with AC/DC in 86 and have seen dozens since with the highlight so far being Tom Waits in Amsterdam in 04 but so far I've never been to a Pearl Jam gig!! I reintroduced myself to the forums after a 3 year abscence with a post titled 40 year old virgin or something like that trying to get some encouragement to actually go to one on this tour before I reach 40 and still haven't seen one. Six months later I'm waiting as patiently as I can for me and my very tolerant (pregnant) partner to see the guys in Dublin, Belfast and London next month then taking her back home and going solo to Berlin for the most anticipated gig of my life. I try my best to listen to other music but when you have 150+ official boots and almost every show downloaded you're going to listen to a lot of PJ and I just can't help it! First song I heard was Alive on MTV. Favourite album is Vitalogy. Favourite song is Sometimes. I believe PJ are one of the alltime greats and will be more recognised as such globally in another 5 years. Great band, great fans, and a great thread! Can't wait to meet many of you on tour next month and see if the ones I've been in contact with so far really are crazy. Peace and love to you all! :D

Hi I'm Liz I'm 46 and I really dig PJ...how much I appreciate this band is pretty much overshadowed at this moment by how psyched I am for the shows at Hartford and Newark I'm going to sooooon! My little sister really turned the key for me about Pearl Jam. I had listened to Pearl Jam on the radio, whatever, in the early 90's, I think I had Ten back in the day, but she sent me a mix tape (remember cassettes?) in 1995 when I was pregnant with my son, and it had Elderly Woman on it, and I popped it in while I was driving somewhere and I almost went off the road, I was so blown away. I felt like it was about my baby-to-be, that he was coming back to me from somewhere...hard to describe, but that familiar face, you know? ..anyway, from that moment I was hooked, and through the next few years with many tough times Pearl Jam was a lifeline, mostly listening in the car, turned up loud, singing along. No Code came out, and it got my former deadhead touring buddies into PJ as I was trying to figure out who I was, even a stop sign had a part so guess I was OK. Yield, well, what that was about was dancing, stomping in my living room, while I waited for my divorce to go through, I was, I was a furry thing and i was not trying to make a difference. I saw them the first time in Hartford in '98, an interesting experience w/police, etc...I joined 10c and then let it lapse (damn!) and then joined again. When the avocado album came out, I had the chance to travel to the middle east, and I listened to Marker and Army Reserve as we were flying along the Iran/Iraq border. PJ is part of my life dealing with the challenges of today, including raising my now teen aged children - who listen to Horse the Band and Lil Wayne and not so much PJ - it is rare when there is nothing wrong. My husband is not yet a full fledged fan but the fact that he'll be going to his 4th and 5th shows this spring makes me get all mushy with how great he is. The fact that when I put my ipod on shuffle its almost all PJ made me realize I'm kinda hooked and perhaps need to branch out a bit...just after I put the Philly boots in...See you in Hartford and Newark, can't wait for that Alive dedication! Love to all of you xoxo pj maine mom
