eddie did his thing with the doors already. At the rock hall initiation. And i can't tell you how bad i would have liked to see the two most incredible bands in my eyes, become one for a tour.
who is to say why it didn't happen with that tour with ray and robbie. Maybe Eddie is sensitive to John Densmore's side.

im not a huge fan or ian or the cult. but i'll tell you what. he kicked ass with ray and robby when i saw that.
I had my doubts going to that show. Damn it was a good show.

So he's upset that musicians more relevant than himself would rather make their own music with their own band than go around covering The Doors? And then he questions their intergrity?

    That's rich.

the cult made 3 great records from 85-90 and have dissappeared and become irrelevant ever since...those doors 21c shows were at 2000 seat theatres. fuck him

the cult is the only large band i have ever seen booed off the stage, when they played with metallica
i actually felt bad for them . that was like in the early 90's

I went to one of those Doors shows with Astbury singing... it was great!!!

not sure about the interview and the supposed not too kind words... he just has an opinion on a subject.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Ray and Robbie are touring again this summer. i wonder who is singing this time?

Those guys still bring it man, so much talent there

I was a big fan of the Cult between about 1987 - 1989. I saw them in 1987 & 1989, and I can be seen in one of their videos - Sweet Soul Sister? - as I was in the front row at Wembley. (I'm also the reason why Wild Flower got fucked up at the Wembley show, but that's another story).

Astbury is a bit of a plank though. I remember when he adopted his fake American accent on stage for a few years. Wtf was that all about? And in this interview he talks about integrity? Plonker!

I always liked their first album 'Dreamtime'. There's a great video of them performing this album live. I still have it at home somewhere.

The Cult were actually the band that first got me into alternative music, so I can't knock 'em too much.

Ray and Robbie are playing here in town. Not planning on going though.

When a band relies on it's former name, when the biggest presence of the band is gone, I'm either expecting someone to replace that presence by "posing" as them, or expecting to see them play material without that presence at all. Both of which I'm not interested in. Same reason I wasn't interested in seeing the re-done version of AIC (props to Jerry's efforts with the band, of course). Or even in seeing G'n'R without the band.

If they billed themselves as "Riders On The Storm", or simply "Manzarek & Krieger", I might have another thought on the matter. Like when the Grateful Dead toured as The Other Ones... a perfect name for it. I remember the "Jeff Buckley Band" came to town maybe 7 years ago. It was nothing I was expecting - since the first two words of their name set up expectations.

    ...anyway, that's my double coppers.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

::shrug:: not really sure where he's coming from to have an opinion like that. I don't really see a sense of entitlement coming from any of the people he's listed.

but then again, I think any bands from the 80's tend to hold a grudge against bands from the 90's.

Who cares what he says. Half the time they all open their pie holes just for publicity. I think his frustration has always been The Cult weren't as big as they should have been. I saw them as one of the support acts for GNR at Milton Keynes about 94 and I thought they blew everyone else off the stage.

I think Astbury sounds a bit hurt. Some of its jealousy, I'm sure. He seems well aware of the fact that if he hadn't left the Cult to front the Doors 21st century, his band could very well be selling out stadiums and what not--basically that he sacrificed his energy for the Cult and put all he had into the Doors at that time--while the other bands had all their energy into only their own bands. and now it seems that his original baby--the Cult--won't be getting the awards and attention it so deserves--or could have deserved. such is the same with marriages and parenting. :problem:
its hard in life to figure out how much of yourself to sacrifice.
he is the kind of person who, like myself, went through life not really tooting his own horn but very well could have. I definitely feel for him.

However, Pearl Jam kicks ass and I can't say a bad word about them--I just can't. They rock!!

What kind of arrogant prick "demands" that they be able to play with a the remaining members of a classic band from the past?! That's like Jack White demanding that he be the new singer for Nirvana. What a tit!

I am surprised he did not mention AC/DC, their obvious inspiration...LOL

he has a great voice and I do like their best of but I think their music has not aged very well and btw yes, they were booed off stage in Hungary as well right before the mighty Metallica...

I don't know about selling out stadiums. They played here in INDY back in '07 at a venue that holds about 1,700. Two days before the show I was getting free passes via email from the venue because it had not sold very well.

I think some people are taking this a bit too seriously, Ian's always been a bit stuck up. Heck, I think it's a sign of respect that when he mentions American singers that could have fronted the Doors, the first name that he came up with is Ed.

I saw the Cult about 2 years ago here at the Fillmore, they kicked some serious ass. They are still relavent. As popular as PJ? Hell no ... but still a fantastic band.

saw him twice with the doors and twice with the cult; actually got to meet him and billy after the show in clevland and they were real nice. My buddy was going to have kidney surgery a coule days later and ian was real cool and nice about shit; Not sure where all the hostility is coming from in that interview but i'm sure some of it is aimed at maybe musicians or fans that thought the doors touring was too gimmicky. As far as my understanding goes, densmore said he would've toured if they could've got vedder to do it but eddie said no to robbie and ray..either way the cult has a pretty awesome catalougue and carreer and ian needs to remember that and keep it that way.

What he said. Let's not forget Astbury has always been just a bit arrogant. That's his problem if he makes it sound like it was an inconvenience to front the band that his biggest influence did years before.
