wtf were they thinking putting evenflow, alive, porch .... in there, they didn't work at all acoustic imo

granted im not a fan of that even flow at all...but come on? THAT Porch? shame if ya dont like it? funky bridge on it too....nice choice on WASH tho!

anywaysers...to the business at hand, id pretty much pick benaroya, but there are songs not in that set (and written since) that deserve a shot in acoustic show imo:

    Once
    Come Back
    Tremor Christ
No Way (with a similar chug-along vibe to acoustic Miracles)
    Light Years
You Are (without the effects, on acoustics it sounds kinda cool)
    Garden
    Sad
Daughter - Push Me Pull Me
Inside Job (has to be on 12string)

    and....Habit. Would ROCK

sure they are good versions, but mtv unplugged is all about showing the world the bands other side, hence why i dont think songs like porch evenflow alive etc were necessary. they are the songs the band is known for

look at nirvana, now ive been a massive PJ fan for years (saw them 5 times on their last aussie tour), but i rated nirvana's mtv unplugged performance better than pearl jams, because they showed a completely different side to what they are known as, played lots of cover songs by other bands including a band no-one really knew much about, and they didn't play their popular songs (apart from 1 come as you are)

not false but both bands did MTV unplugged at a complete diffrent stage in their career. Nirvana had alread yreleased a few albums. Pearl Jam only had Ten.

    this is very true
however, they could (and should have) played at least a couple of the following

footsteps (why they didn't play this is beyond me this would have been awesome)
    release
    wash
let me sleep (not sure on this one, was done in 1992 but not sure if done before or after the mtv performance, il assume before as it was the christmas single)

having said all this, unplugged black was incredible and better than any other MTV unplugged song ive heard a band do :)

I cant believe someone said Porch was an awful choice for MTV Unplugged. When I first saw that performance it totally blew me away. State of Love and Trust was also superb - hearing Eddie's voice so clearly without studio trickery made me realise just how good he really is.

I guess MTV had a big say on choice and didnt want to air songs not off Ten.

Isn't the whole point of MTV Unplugged is to show classic songs in different/acoustic arrangements? Not to mention that Pearl Jam had only one albums worth of material to choose from when they first did it. So I think it's a bit unfair to criticise them for the setlist, especially seeing (IMO) that it was a damn good concert.

If they do do it again, I hope they do some lesser known songs. We've all heard Daughter, Better Man, Long Road etc. I'd love to see some of the more heavy rocking songs as acoustic numbers, provided they work (Do The Evolution!)

I completely agree here...just because your playing an "unplugged" show doesnt mean you have to drop all your harder/heavier rock type songs for your ballads....I thought their unplugged show was amazing...the way their songs sounded in acoustic format was incredible, as was theyre playing. Theres very little room for error when playing acoustically and they did a damn good job of hitting all the notes...just a thought...
