but did ed dedicate Alive or Just Breathe?

He dedicated Just Breathe "even though it isn't what you asked for", but said "if we play Alive, that's for you, too".

    So happy for you, James!

Wow. I'm just about bawling crying reading this.
James - I've been following your thread for the past few days and am so thankful you got your wish!! My dad went through a brain tumor a few years ago (is fine now!!) but I know how emotional having a sick parent can be. Especially one you are so close to.
You sound like an awesome kid and so does your dad...I know y'all had an amazing time and am so glad other badass PJ fans got your letter to Ed!

    God Bless!

The set was the first thing I checked this morning, hoping that James got his wish...

    Absolute awesomeness :mrgreen::clap: :thumbup:
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

Like Sian and dottles first thing I did this morning was check the setlist thread for Alive and then to come here and read that Just Breathe was also dedicated ... perfect :D (and caused a lump in my throat  )

    Congrats James

Congats James, this had been a great thread! i hope all goes well for you and your dad.

I guess James and his dad ended up seeing the Carrie Underwood concert. They COMPLETELY FORGOT the PJ show was tonight!!!! There was another letter delivered via shoe to Ms. Underwood though, and she sang Alive as best she could....right.

Of course I'm completely just messing around. Congrats, fellas!!!

This story really hits home. I had a friend who just lost their life to leukemia. His little sister is #1 in the Livestrong virtual bike ride. http://www.livestrongaction.org/bike/christine-rides-for-nicholas-desocio. That's the link if you got a second to cheer her on.

Thanks - cheered her on. :D

Great reading that James & her dad got both Just Breathe & Alive! And high fives to the PJ fans helping with the letter getting to the stage...and more high fives for the band taking the time to read it!

I am really enjoying this tour - even though I am not seeing PJ at all - because of this kindness/giving/sharing. Setlist threads are so much fun...but my favorites are reading stories like this. :D

    You're a great kid, James!
JA: Why do I get the Ticketmaster question?
    EV: It's your band.

  • SO AWESOME!

Like the rest of you, the first thing I did this morning was check this thread! I couldn't be happier for you guys!!

Somebody else mentioned that they've been telling everyone about the shoe story from Buffalo, which makes me feel good 'cause I've been doing the same. The reaction from people is so great! I can't wait to update them all!

Anyway, now I have to clean up all my tears and get back to work....I'm sure if someone notices the tears and asks why I'm crying, I'll only get "Well, there's this kid....." out and then start crying all over again! haha. What a mess!

I know EXACTLY how you feel bro! Eddie and the guys dedicated "smile" to my friend Jenn who's in the hospital! What a feeling that came over me when that happened! This band really is the greatest! I am so happy you got your wish and request answered! This band rocks!!!

UPDATE: THANKS EVERYONE FOR MAKING MY REQUEST COME TRUE. In the beginning of the first encore Ed came out and started saying how we should be thanksful for being alive. He started to say that a young man wrote him a poinient letter saying how much respect he had for his father. He said that my dad had been through many battles fighting to stay alive. Then he said they're hear tonight and I think I am saying this right. "Jack Ruggiero" (He said it right) The house lights came on and me and my dad screamed to get ED to see us and hopefully he did. And he said, "We want to dedicate this song to him for all he's been through and we'll dedicate Alive also. This is for you, Jack." PJ started playing Just Breathe. During this song my dad and I balled our eyes out and we cried the whole song. This was something so special that happened and was amazing. EVeryone in our section started to shake our hands and give hugs. It was the greatest moment of my dad and my lives. During ALive Eddie also said, "This is for you Jack." During Alive we went crazy and this has been the best PJ show I have ever been to. Thanks everyone for supporting , especially Chris and Dave and I will get my thank you to the band :)
This is wonderful news! Love makes life worth living and Pearl Jam spreads the love! Just excellent!!

well this is just one of the coolest damn things I've ever heard about. Congratulations and I wish you and your father many more years together.

Whenever there's a thread bitching about most things, I might just post a link to this thread. this situation puts a lot of things into perspective.
