but did ed dedicate Alive or Just Breathe?

He dedicated Just Breathe "even though it isn't what you asked for", but said "if we play Alive, that's for you, too".

    So happy for you, James!

    oh yey! that's great!

UPDATE: THANKS EVERYONE FOR MAKING MY REQUEST COME TRUE. In the beginning of the first encore Ed came out and started saying how we should be thanksful for being alive. He started to say that a young man wrote him a poinient letter saying how much respect he had for his father. He said that my dad had been through many battles fighting to stay alive. Then he said they're hear tonight and I think I am saying this right. "Jack Ruggiero" (He said it right) The house lights came on and me and my dad screamed to get ED to see us and hopefully he did. And he said, "We want to dedicate this song to him for all he's been through and we'll dedicate Alive also. This is for you, Jack." PJ started playing Just Breathe. During this song my dad and I balled our eyes out and we cried the whole song. This was something so special that happened and was amazing. EVeryone in our section started to shake our hands and give hugs. It was the greatest moment of my dad and my lives. During ALive Eddie also said, "This is for you Jack." During Alive we went crazy and this has been the best PJ show I have ever been to. Thanks everyone for supporting , especially Chris and Dave and I will get my thank you to the band :)

I'm so happy for you both ruggs. I'm not a man that cries, but you got me in tears right now little buddy.

Wow...I had only casually followed this, and never even really took the time to read the whole letter until just now. What an absolutely AMAZING story. Your dad is very proud of you James. I know you don't need anyone here to tell you that, but he has a wonderful son. I think sometimes, even us fathers, forget how much we mean to our kids. We always think about how much they mean to us, but I've never really thought about how much my kids love me. I pray that I never have to go through what your dad did, more so for my kids sake, than for myself. Thank God he made it through and is healthy now. I think this is the best story ever posted on these boards.

    Dave,

I'm so very in. I also was able to get a pair for thursday so my gf and I can catch show 1 together! Thanks for everything man. Drinks on me??

(in a pint glass, not a shoe)

I will take you up on a free pint. Ruggs wants to meet up with us so we need to coordinate that. He's only 14 so we can't buy him a pint, but maybe a nice Hebrew National hotdog would work.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who's been brought to tears by this story! It really kind of renews my faith in humanity that there is a son who cares so much for his father, people on a fan club message board who are willing to help their fellow members out like this, and of course a hugely famous band who cares enough about its fans to make the dedication.

Congrats James and have fun at MSG!
