Is there really a time to stop?!

Last night in Cleveland I sang along with every word of every song fairly loudly, my uncle and dad said they didn't mind but there is a time to stop and just listen, but I don't see why because you can still hear them over your own voice and it's fun.

It's time to stop asking your uncle and dad to join you!

sometimes people just can't sing and its annoying to hear right next to you especially if you are screaming. I think that was a polite way of telling you that your voice is horrible, especially at high levels.

haha no, I think they were just saying that because they were jelous that they've been fans for 19 years and I have for like a year and a half but I know more words than them.

Oh yeah, it's bad, but still there were other people doing it with horrible voices that get annoying but I understand because it's so much fun.
  • Don't they get it?

The only time you stop to listen is during the guitar solos.

I do it all the time but once was told by wifey that she wanted to hear Eddie sing Wishlist so I let her.

I know singing comes with the territory, but I have had a couple experiences when tone deaf people screaming lyrics beside me to the point when I couldn't hear Eddie sing clearly. Did it really negatively impact my experience at the show? Not really. I get that everyone is having fun, but if you don't have a gift then at least turn the volume down a bit. :D

They're not? I would. And I think most of my friends would say something too. We pay to hear the band, not another fan. I'm not saying you should never sing at a concert, but if you're being loud enough to drown out some sound from the band, you're being rude.

yeah....i go to a lot of concerts and i've never had this problem.
i mean unless somebody's up in my ear...all i hear is the band.
lol and even if you're in my ear it still doesn't mean i'll hear you. i hate when people try to talk to me at concerts.

Ok then I wasnt annoying anyone, my uncle and dad wernt directing it towards me, my uncle wasnt even by me at the show, they were having a conversation discluding me and I over heard it, they ment that THEY wouldn't sing along the whole time because when it's you yourself singing it's alot louder than other people beside you sound.

BTW thanks for using your username to call me a god :D
  • I say sing your heart out! I don't have a great voice, but I go for it b/c it's so much fun. They encourage us to sing along. Think about it, you can hear the entire crowd singing (but you can still hear the band over them). Everyone around you is singing, I've never been able to center in on one voice at any concert to say, "wow, they suck." I'm not sure what their deal was, but don't worry about it, just enjoy yourself. Nobody is watching or listening to you, they are singing and focused on the band just like you.
    Hearts and thoughts they fade....
    fade away...

I am at peace with my lust.....for Eddie.

My friend and I have almost stopped speaking over his "do do do do do do do-ing" during Black at several shows. He is so freaking loud and annoying. And even when the "do's" start to die down, he's still doing it as loud as possible.

I used to be one of those "I came to hear the band" folks. But I've seen PJ enough times, and now I love when the crowd is all singing along. Preferably with hand motions.

Yeah, that shit goes on forever...you wonder if the band are sitting there waiting for everyone to shut up so they can finish the song? Haha

I say sing your heart out as well. We pay good money to be there.....jump, sing, scream, clap...as long as you aren't being a huge ass, do it...

I don't know, if a person is truly singing at the top of their lungs through each and every song, not the classic
sing a longs we all know and love( and the new ones I'm hearing now too) but each song, that can get pretty distracting for the person right next to you. Eddies voice is precious to me, I close my eyes and get lost there. I really need this. If someone right next to me is singing each song so I can not hear him but over their voice I'm inclined to think that is a little overbearing. I would say unintentionally rude. They do not realize it is annoying to those closest to them. Not much you can do but hope it never happens to you and maybe if you are the one doing it look around and see how others are doing. The thing about being an "ass" is often we just don't know we are, its kind of innocent being an ass but now a "jag" they know they are and its often a goal! Thank goodness we meet very few of those in life.

i think you have to be awful to be noticed

    during betterman intro at bonnaroo..
this guy was so flat and monotone but was right in my ear..i swear to god i had to turn around to make sure it wasn't stephen wright. didn't ruin the show. but it was annoying. i remember my bud and i were talking about the show weeks later and he's like that betterman was a good time...except some jerkoff was talking the song into my ear..i was like, "YOU HEARD STEPHEN WRIGHT TOO??"...was funny 8-)

It's actually really funny you mention this because something similar happened to me at Cleveland. I took my girlfriend to her first show, tried to prepare her for the die-hards the best to my ability. We were in section 125 which ROCKED. Everyone sang every word. Only on the slow songs did people sing to themselves (didn't scream). She mentioned after the show how she has never been to a show where everyone sang to the point where you could hardly hear the singer. She wasn't mad...she just never experienced that before. I replied that when a band has such raw energy and emotion in their music...like Pearl Jam, the completely involuntary response is to sing with all of your heart and soul.

It is as bad as second hand smoke, farting in an elevator full of people, standing in a doorway where people are trying to get through, coughing on a buffet, or partying too loud after midnight knowing you're disturbing your neighbors. It's about consideration for the people around you and making the experience good for everybody. I'm not saying don't sing at all. But I think there is a certain level where it annoys others and cuts into their experience. I don't think it requires a survey of the people around you. You just have to use some judgment. At LA3, there was a 300-400 lb Baby Huey looking individual who moaned like a grizzley bear when he sang. During "Just Breathe", he sang, moaned, it loud to the point that he was as loud as Ed. I was unable to listen to Just Breathe for about 6 months after the show because that walrus standing next to me popped into my head, and that noise. I'm sure he enjoyed himself but ruined it for me and possibly others. I've seen others sing and keep it reasonably well to themselves, not ruining it for others. They used better judgment.
