Brutal way for the Giants season to end. He clearly checked his swing. That being said, who knows if he would've been able to do anything against Max. Just brutal.

I've always thought that the DS should be 7 games and wish this series would've gone 7 because it was so much fun to watch.

So, Braves/Dodgers and Astros/Red Sox. What does everyone think? Here are my quick thoughts/picks..

NLCS: Braves need to win one in LA. If they do, they could push it to 6 back in LA. (Dodgers in 5-6 games)
ALCS: This series will be a slugfest and will go at least 6 games, I think. (Houston in 6-7 games)

We posted about the stupidity of the check swing rule (it is about "intent to swing" and a judgement call on the Ump's part and not a matter of "crossing the plate" or "breaking his wrists") in this thread before....I hate these types of rules.  Agree that this should not have been called a strike.

Tough way to end.

Could have been a bad pitch and called a strike w/o the batter moving...that happens all of the time.  I guess it comes down to scoring more than 1 run if you want to win.

What a series.

Great game last night.  What a season for the Giants, a shame to see it end on such a disappointing note.  Great chess match game that was intense from start to finish.

Hoping the Braves can put up a fight against the Dodgers and also the Astros/Sox end up in a classic.

They need to re-seed after the one-game wildcard game.*  I know that both teams can't go to the World Series but a 107-win team and 106-win team should not be playing a best-of-five. It should be set up for them to be able to play a best-of-seven for the NL championship. The Giants should not be "rewarded" by playing the wildcard team. They should be rewarded by playing the 4th-best remaining team with the possibility that someone else takes care of the second-best team.

Ive seen it kicked around for awhile, but I really like the idea of allowing the higher-seeded team to choose their opponent.

Ive seen it kicked around for awhile, but I really like the idea of allowing the higher-seeded team to choose their opponent.  

I'd rather they just reseed. After the one-game playoff, the Giants would be #1 and play the #4 Braves, and the Dodgers would play the Brewers.

As fucked up as the system could be, it used to be so much worse. Remember when home-field advantage wasn't even determined by who had the better record? Not just in the World Series, but the LCS too. I think 1993 is what led to many changes. That year, my beloved '93 Phillies won the NL East with 97 wins. The Braves won the NL West (why were they in the West again?) with 104 wins, and the Giants, with 103 wins were left out of the playoffs. I think this directly led to them saying "enough is enough" and expanding to three divisions and a wildcard.

Not only that, the Phillies (97 wins) had home field advantage over the Braves (104)  in the NLCS because home field rotated each year between the divisions. The NFL used to stupidly do that too. The undefeated '72 Dolphins had to play the Steelers in the AFC title game in Pittsburgh. 

Also, in the earliest days of the wildcard format, they didn't seed it as 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs 3. It was more "rotating division" crap. Check out the 1995 AL playoffs. Copied from Wikipedia....

• Seattle Mariners (Western Division champion, 79–66) vs. New York Yankees (Wild Card, 79–65)
• Boston Red Sox (Eastern Division champion, 86–58) vs. Cleveland Indians (Central Division champion, 100–44)

Indians (1 seed) vs. Red Sox (2) and Mariners (3) vs. Yankees (4)?????? How dumb.

Sure, I'll do a poster for poster with you, punk. Not sure what "extra" posters I have laying around/in tubes, but I'm sure we can figure something out.

It should be a fun series with plenty of offense. It's going at least 6 games, I think. Bummed that McCullers is on the Taxi squad, but it is what it is.
