I don't know if anyone else saw this, but John Axford's wife went into labor during the Brewer's 13-inning win the other night. He blew the save in the game, which ended his streak of 49 consecutive saves. Since he couldn't stick around to talk to reporters, he was kind enough to leave a note:

    http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/ ... uch-rules/

I tried to insert the image of the note but it was too big and I couldn't figure out how to make it smaller.

    Cliche...cliche..another cliche

I miss the times when athletes would just say what they wanted and not have practiced statements. Well, I guess there is Twitter :).

EXACTLY! and I like josh hamilton.

he did a whole interview on PTI the other day, wearing some similarly douchey white kaenon glasses. they're a fucking plague.

josh is a stud, no doubt. cj wilson thinks josh can break bonds' record.....perhaps, but...

josh has walked 13 times in 31 games; 5 times intentionally

when barry hit 73, he was walked 177 times

in '02, he hit 46 HR, batted .370 and walked 198 times; 68 intentionally

it reached ridiculous proportions in '04....232 walks, 120 intentional, 45 HR, .362 BA

in poo-holes' entire career, his high for intentional walks was 44. in barry's FINAL year, he got 43

my point is, no one has ever been treated like barry...he rarely saw a pitch and he still put up ridiculous numbers. yes, he was on the juice but he was an incredible talent and the HOF is a joke without him.

without the "bonds treatment," josh just might do it. the rangers' lineup makes it hard to put anyone on base without paying.

SI Power Ranking get more ridiculous by the week hahaha. I know they mean nothing, but I can't help but post this garbage:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/b ... mlb_t11_a0

Cards just got swept by the Braves, yet they are #1. Red Sox and Phillies in the top 8. Mets and Yanks both with 19 wins- Yanks in at #4 and the Mets are #17.

Oh, I'm sure it's completely unrelated to the Braun ruling and the fact that MLB felt the need to overturn Eliezer Alfonso's 100-game ban for the same reason. If you believe that, then Bud Selig has some wonderful oceanfront property he'd like to sell you in Milwaukee.

HOF would be an even bigger joke with him in it. He ruined Hank Aaron's all time HR mark and helped Sosa and McGwire ruin Maris' single season mark. Bonds may have been the best of all time without roids, but that's a big if. He decided to cheat and lie and now they're all paying for it. And I love that his record breaking ball has an asterisk on it.

there's not much gray area with barry....you either loved him (me) or hate his cheating ass (you). I get it. But I will take exception to your assertion that he "helped Sosa and McGwire ruin Maris' single season mark." In actuality, those guys started using first and Barry followed out of jealousy and a "wait a minute, I'm better than them" attitude.

for a multitude of reasons, it's a waste of time to compare numbers from different eras. every era had factors to help and hurt numbers. carry on ;)

Please..don't blame the players for taking steroids, blame baseball for letting hit happen. Players in every generation of baseball history have looked for an advantage; spit balls, scuffing the ball, greenies, steroids, etc. Let them all in.

Don't give me the character clause either because players back in the day were complete scumbags.

How about we blame both the commissioner and the players. Selig should have been fired along with banning the players and not recognizing their records.

Dude, Hank Aaron took greenies. I don't get the outrage over steroids.

Ruth didn't play against black players
Aaron took greenies, he definitely would have missed games if it weren't for them
    And Bonds had roids.

Everyone had their advantage. You could argue that steroids had a bigger impact but the point is, everyone had some sort of advantage over pervious periods.

Baseball let it happen and quite honestly, every player in baseball should have been taking them.

not to mention, bonds played in two very tough HR parks (candlestick and AT&T) while hank played a bunch at a place they called "the launching pad."

JT Snow said Bonds would have hit 80 in any other ballpark
I can't remember if he hit one in Yankee Stadium. I remember the Yankees intentionally walked him, which made me mad because I wanted to see Bonds hit one in Yankee Stadium.

    June 2002

At the team meeting before the Giants series, manager Joe Torre told Lilly not to allow Bonds to dominate the game, which was like telling a politician not to dominate the discussion.

David Bell led off the Giants' first inning with a walk. Rich Aurilia followed with a ground-ball single to left field, moving Bell to second. Barry was the batter.

Lilly delivered the first pitch, which was a high fastball. Barry swung and missed. The crowd, in unison, screamed with delight.

Some older fans had an image of Mickey Mantle in their minds. Even older fans could see Babe Ruth.

Jorge Posada fired the ball back to Lilly, who toed the rubber, checked the runners, and delivered a pitch that was low and away to even the count at 1-1.

Bell took a short lead off second. Aurilia inched towards second base. Lilly fired, and Barry blasted.

The fastball that, much to Lilly's chagrin, stayed too far inside landed about halfway up the third deck along the right field foul line. The ball was still rising when it crashed into the seats.
