Look out for the Nationals. They are in second place and with Starsburg looking great in the minors, they could sneak in the playoffs

Starsburg? :wtf: is he related to Starbury?

The Nats will be 15 games out by August.

After the disaster up in the Great White North, we have followed up with a 2 game sweep of the hated Angels and a win last night against the hapless Orioles. Hanging on to first!

Oh, and thanks umpires for admitting you blew the Josh Hamilton home run call last night. Idiots.

Probably true, but Gammons thinks the team is in big financial trouble. Just because they are rich, does not mean they don't mind losing money.

they got a practically free stadium ... and the reality is that we aren't carrying the gargantuan salaries except for maybe wells ... everyone else is pretty much average i think ... also - i think they can use their losses associated with the jays for tax purposes ...

this is such a farse...look at tampa. toronto spends a lot more than the rays and tampa is loaded (and they were in the WS 2 years ago).

riccardi was toronto's problem...you can win in that division

did i mention spending? ... although it does play a factor knowing that the majority of top free agents will be headed to either NY or Boston ... my point is that with Boston, NY AND Tampa in the division - you are gonna have to play really good ball to make the postseason ... the reality is that the jays would be near or at the top of the other two divisions in the AL ...

Former Major League pitcher Jose Lima died of a massive heart attack at his California home early Sunday morning. He was 37.

Long way to go...season isn't even a quarter of the way over yet. The Nats pitching, even with strasburg, won't hold up. As a phils fan, the team I'm still most worried about in the division is the braves

and here come the braves...the nats will be out of it by July 4th. they're much improved, but still awful (just like the skins in football)

dude, you team is making the playoffs. that division is wide open and the rangers have tons of minor league talent ready to contribute.

    My preseason predictions

    Philly
    STL
    Colorado
    WC - Atlanta

    Yanks
    Detroit
    Texas
    WC - Boston

I did say I thought Cincy was a team to look out for (though they're prob a year or 2 away from being serious competitors...I just don't see carpenter making it thru a full season again for STL, making the division wide open). It doesn't matter who wins the two central divisions though...all the teams in those divisions suck

The Fixer - Yeah, this is as good a chance as they have had in a long time to make it. The rare year when my team actually improved in the off season while every other team in the division either stayed the same or got a little worse.

Its a little eerie sitting here watching pitching be the main reason why rather than trying to bash 5 home runs a game.

Every now and then I select a good game to watch on the baseball package. Last night I picked a winner when I invested 2 1/2 hours to watch the Cardinals-Padres. San Diego won 1-0 on a Jerry Hairston home run in the second off Adam Wainwright. Wainwright was a tough-luck loser because he allowed four hits and struck out 12. The teams combined for 21 strikeouts and three walks and the Cardinals put two on in the ninth off Heath Bell.

ah, true. enjoy it while it lasts, the phils won't be down for long. the comforting thing about the last week is that the phils pitching has been decent (moyer still blows) and their bats have been quiet. that won't continue for long

This is the biggest crock of shit with comcast. OFFER THE FUCKING GAMES IN HD. I pay something like $180 a year to watch the Yankees, it should be in fucking HD. I was going to switch over to Direct TV for just this reason and to get the YES network, but it was such a pain in the balls. Fuck comcast and non hd baseball.

I lived in florida for a while a few years ago, so I was in the same boat as you. It would be cool to choose which telecast you watched too (home or away). There are some really brutal announcers out there. Now that harry kalas is gone the phils broadcast is awful too. The Nats, white sox, cards, d-backs, brewers all have horrible broadcasts (white sox and d-backs are the worst).

I feel bad for you if you're stuck watching yanks/white sox and you get the chisox broadcast, without HD. ugh

Yeah, believe it or not the one thing I miss about living in NY is not getting Michael Kay every night. I don't think anyone has ever said that before.

White Sox are by far the worst. Tampa's are horrible, Nats are really bad.

It's kind of funny how big homers a lot of the broadcasters are. I always thought the Yanks guys were homers but most other teams are much much worse. These Twins announcers I had the past couple nights are openly rooting for the team while calling the game. For example, Morneau hit a long fly ball and Byleven was yelling "GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OUT!".

Then, after Jeter hit the home run yesterday and the Yanks were up 1-0 going into the 8th the play by play guy said, "This game is far from over" and Bert Byleven responded with "Oh, the Twins are going to win this game" (I get that he played for the twins for much of his career but it is a bit absurd how bad he is)

This brings up the "we" conversation. When watching other broadcasters, they are constantly referring to the team as "we" (especially the Nats, dont know why anyone would want to refer to the Nats as we). I FUCKING HATE THIS. You are there to describe what is going on in teh game, not consider yourself part of the fucking team.

agree with everything you said here. I don't mind michael kay...I think the yanks guys do a great job. my favorite broadcast teams are cubs (best in baseball), mets, yanks, marlins, dodgers (scully is best ever), now padres (dick enberg is good), mariners.

the twins guys are pretty bad. I kinda like the rays guys. their play by play guy looks like a 70's porn actor.

the cards guys may be the biggest homers. and I forgot to mention the pirates guys...if you ever have trouble falling asleep just put on a pirates game. their announcers are worse than the team

That is pretty funny. I don't catch as much of the NL guys as you do but from what i can remember agree with all that. The Rays guys are good bu what gets on my nerves is how great they think the Rays are. If you closed your eyes you would think they are talking about the 1927 Yankees.

Speaking of the Rays team, Harry couldn't get Todd Kalas a better gig than that? Shit, Joe Buck does the world series and suerpbowl because of his old man.

Scully is the best ever. There was a great article in the Times a couple months ago about how the Yankees almost had him. That would have been awesome.
