Nashville and baseball?  That would be interesting.  That means the team will be music related I'm sure...
As of now the initiative is named after the former negro league team, the Stars. Would be cool if they kept this.

Too funny...he's going back to the Twins

    Extremely funny.
Nashville Stars does not have a good ring to it...
They should make it Nashville Northstars
HAHAHAHA!  That's funny and I was thinking the same thing.
Any team that includes stars or north stars just brings back memories of MN losing hockey to Dallas in the 90's. So stupid.
North stars and Nordiques moving I'll never understand.  When The Avalanche(Nordiques) win a cup in their 1st year away from Quebec?  Man that must still sting for them up there.

    They have 3 since leaving...
Lindros refusing to go to Quebec lead them to a great roster.
Bettman moved both the Nordiques and Jets (although there were other issues for both) yet continues to bend over backwards for the Coyotes.
Playing in a 5000 seat arena is an absolute joke for the NHL
Its about the US television footprint.  Hartford does little, but moving into North Carolina into new territory was a good business decision.  Jets moving to Phoenix, yes.  Quebec City to Denver.  Minnesota to Dallas...  However, Minneapolis should have an NHL team and they rightly got one back. They were forcing all the markets to pony up for the new cookie cutter arenas of the 90s, and those who didn't build were left behind.   Atlanta back to Winnipeg was a weird one, but they had a guy with like $20 Billion ready to pony up in their league and a messy situation in Atlanta.

The Coyotes is an interesting one.  I cant shit on them too much.  Huge playoff drought.  Since they moved there like 25 years ago, there has only been 1 season they have won a playoff series.  That arena in Glendale really choked attendance off.  I'm surprised the NHL hasnt tried to grease them into Houston yet, but this new arena project sounds pretty lucrative.

I'm a guy who really prefers and misses the old NHL pre-1994.  However, I get why the NHL did what they did and it has worked out very well
I'd also add most, if not all, expansions/relocations/stadium refurbs or builds were paid with tax dollar money back then. Which very much is not the landscape today, or at least certainly not to the degree it was in the 90's.

So who gets in HoF this year? Sheffield? Rolen? Other?

I think Sheffield and Helton have the best shot at getting in this year.

Rolen made it in with 76.3% of the vote.

Helton just missed with 72.2%. Wagner is the only other player that was close with 68.1% of the vote. With the way they've been trending, they have the best chance next year.

The baseball HOF is a joke these days. Scott Rolen please.  The steriod superstars can't get in so let's put a player who was really good but  never great. Never a top 10 player in the game in any year.

Definition of a compiler. Once they put Alan Trammell and Harold Baines in these are the players that would never have gone in

But Rolen wasn't even that, in relation to the era in which he played. A lot of gold gloves, deservedly so. One of the greatest defensive third basemen ever. But he really fell off after he hurt his back in '05.

he’s trending toward induction, so another selective steroid guy will get in to join pudge, piazza, bagwell and who knows who else.

If Rolen is in then so should be Helton. Almost identical numbers. I guess he goes in as a Cardinal?

  • Rolen and Jones should be in.  Sheffield?  Never led in any category, never had an MVP or GG.  He did get the magical number of 500 HR so he should be in.

Andru Jones and Scott Rolen both were great players for 10 years.  That is the definition/requisite needed to be considered to the HOF.

Baines I still don't see as being one of those players...

Jones only beat out Rolen with Hr total. All around hitter, goes to Rolen by a notable margin. I put a large premium on 3B GG vs OF one’s.

Both could probably be in on fielding alone.

In his 17 year career, Rolen got MVP votes four times. He finished 20, 24, 4 and 14. that’s not HOF worthy, IMO. :nuh_uh:

I said thhis earlier Helton should be ion instead of Rolen. His MVP votes- 5,9,19,7,16 and 13. Had a .316 BA, over 2500 hits and over 350 homers. also in 17 seasons. almost won ROY and a pretty solid 1B.

I normally hate stuff like this but I think this is the right thing to do to help speed the games up. If you watch old games on youtube or something form 80's and 90's, players seemed to have these clocks internally. Batters barely left the box between pitches. There was so much more flow to a game back then. Hopefully this helps.

There are some pitchers who take up 30 seconds between pitches. And not even for asking for a different sign

Or the batters that rip batting cloves, adjust helmet, touch ballsack, touch helmet again, dance in box, dig in , ball away, repeat...

  • Here's my opinion on Scott Rolen in the Hall of Fame:

N-O-B-O-D-Y went to the ballpark to see Scott Rolen.  I've not met a single Scott Rolen fan in my life. Never has anybody said the phrases "Scott Rolen is my all-time favorite baseball player, "I modeled my game after Scott Rolen, "When I was a kid, I wanted to be Scott Rolen," or "I wear #17/#27 because of Scott Rolen."

Not only is it dumb that he's in the Hall of Fame, it's even dumber that the voters took a look at that ballot and collectively said "Scott Rolen is the ONLY Hall of Famer on here."  Ridiculous.

Hall of Very Good Careers, yes; of Fame, no.
  • Lol.
I like-ish Rolen.  When he was on Reds I really liked him.
    On phils, liked him.
    On cards,  hated him.
The vote going down like this was what I predicted but that doesn't mean I am a Rolen fan.
The love he receives is the love that is saved

    Very accurate take.

He's not even in the Phillies Wall of Fame. And I bet that has more to do with the fans not liking him, and the embarrassment of getting booed at his induction ceremony, than it does his actual performance on the field here.
