I'd say the former part of your point is irrelevant, and at the same time speaks to the problem with the latter of your point. So I'd put it like this:

1 - The purpose of taking the guy out at 2nd is to either extend the inning or score a run, which LA did.

2 - Both would be a judgment call by the umps, yes? Replay or otherwise?

As I saw written somewhere else that a manager was quoted saying - something along the lines that if Buster Posey didn't have terrible form of blocking the plate this would even be less of an issue today. Now it's a matter of "oh, if you can protect the catcher at the plate, what about the other bases?" Such a dumb rule.

apparently, there's a rule in place....should have been called two outs....everybody happy; no need for a suspension.

    Go.....cards, mets, astros and rangers.

If it's ok for the Mets to be outraged then shouldn't the Pirates be even more since their starting shortstop was taken out by the team that beat them in the playoffs in a play even further from the base than Utley's.

My point is that a lot of people are not upset that Utley slid the way he did, but that he was called safe when he never touched the bag.

    Adds insult to injury.

it does seem that most of the people who are defending Chase are Philies fans, Dodgers fans and some ex-ball players but that doesn't make us wrong. Just because a New York player got hurt doesn't make it worse than when a Pirates player got hurt. You can make the argument that play was worse than Utley's.

and come on NY thunder sticks really? you are better than that.

I have said I don't think there was anything outrageously wrong with what he did. It was a late slide that happens pretty much every day and it had an unfortunate outcome. I just find it funny the people fighting tooth and nail on it are Phillies fans.

haha, that was bad, but they haven't been there in a while. That Cespedes home run last night was awesome.

that was the deepest Home Run i've ever seen at Citi Field. never seen one go that far up. i actually was glad the Mets blew them out at that point so I didn't have to stay up until after midnight to watch the end.
